Google Search Hijacker
I have a bad Google search hijacker that redirects me to multiple spam sites whenever I do a Google search. Think I picked it up applying for a job online, in retrospect a real no-no. My Avanquest AV can't find it. Anyone know a good search-and-destroy for this sort of thing? I could try a way-back system restore, I suppose.

Before anyone asks, I cannot start my computer in safe mode due to past virus issues I guess, and have not been able to do so for well over a year.

Other than the search hijacker, I seem to have no other viruses or major problems right now.

RE: Google Search Hijacker
Since you can't google, I did a quick search for you. This page has a number of suggestions you can try:

http://help.lockergnome.com/security/Goo...10008.html

Of the replies given there, my money are on editing your DNS hosts file and flushing the DNS cache. Instructions are in the thread I linked.

Either way, you should probably just format the HD and reinstall Windows. (Since your computer was f*cked up earlier. Who knows how much shit you got in there...)

If I have to go that far, I will just pay someone to do it for me. I'm not comfortable with the really complicated stuff...

BTW, I can Google, and get past the hijacks by back clicking or trying again, but it is still annoying!

I'll try the Spybot-just hope it's compatible with my Avanquest (my purchased AV).

It worked for me once too, but stopped finding things. I think the viruses learn how to get past your AV eventually, and you have to try something new.

It is a hostile cookie you need to find your cookie file then delete them. If you open the cookies in notepad then open the site it will tell you which cookie is the trouble maker...
