Skippy Wrote:I was reading through a Rosicrucian book about Atlantis and it said that the Atlanteans celebrated the New Year on the Spring Equinox. This got me to thinking, Is that the real New Year's Day? I did some research in the old books and I couldn't believe it. According to the ancient ways, we haven't entered 2012 yet.

Along with ancient England, the Chinese, Jews, Romans, and American Indians also recognized the new year as begininning with the Vernal Equinox in March.

So what does this mean? It means that all of us who celebrated New Year's Day on the stroke of midnight January 1st weren't really celebrating the New Year. We were celebrating the anniversary of William the Conqueror's coronation.
2012 begins March 20th.
This just happens to be the time that so many people are predicting doom....

Rager Wrote:as for being on topic as to what is the real date of the start of the new year, i wish march 20th would be the official new year's date (historically like it should), it would be much much MUUCH better than celebrating it during cold, gloomy, winter.

December 25th to January 1st is the ancient celebration of Saturnalia. It is cold dark and gloomy because it is Satan's/Saturn's celebration.
Winter is the time of death. Spring is the celebration of Rebirth.
Christians have been tricked into celebrating the birth of the Sun on Satan's (Saturn's) day. That's probably why so many people say in all actuality say that they hate Christmas time. It's no wonder.... It's not really Christmas.

Excellent work, Skippy, excellent.
In very ancient times, Egyptians celebrated new year around the time of the heliacal rising of Sirius (about July 23) which is when the Nile inundation happened each year.
All calendars used in the west were invented or adjusted by some ruler-type or pope (hence Julian and Gregorian, etc). It really is quite arbitrary, though to me and many it makes sense that the New Year, should be celebrated at the END of winter, not the start, as you'd have birth, growth, maturation and death, with seems quite logical.......And don't we all feel more "alive" when spring starts, as if waking up from a long sleep (that is, for those of us who live where winter packs a whollop)?
You sure do find some very interesting information in your searches! Keep sharing please, I love this stuff.

But this doesn't change the Mayan reference that points to the our next winter solstice which according to our current mis-guided calendar is on Dec 21, 2012.
You can renumber, adjust, offset the calendar any which way you want, but the important part is the winter solstice and corresponding alignments that mark a point in time that is independent of religion, politics, or any other man made thing on earth.
Based on your finding the interesting point is that the solstice would actually occur in the third quarter of the year rather than at the end.

I'm not disputing anything about the Mayan date. And you are correct, it would be the third quarter of 2012. Good point.

RE: Guess What? It's Not 2012 Yet. You Won't Believe What I Found Now....
Good stuff Skippy.. just out of curiousity, have you looked into the Rosicrucian new year date?? And what year it is for them? Anymore calendars and days are a laugh for me.. the sun comes up it goes down.. lol with three kids every day it tends to blend together now and again.. making it feel more like a living experience rather than a friday at about 1pm... Time itself is an illusion no doubt.. once we break through that veil then we'll be a little more on our way to understanding the true rythm life has... right now it's just hard to feel that rythm and hear it over all the static in the world, maybe one day when we forget again what a tuesday is, or what two o clock meant... anyway I'm babbelin, nice thread man.. just wanted to ask you about the rosy new year and the year they are in... isn't like 4000 sumthing??.. idk..
