What do you do on a regular basis for fun? When was the last time you went down a slide, played hide and go seek or a good game of waffle ball? In fact, studies show that a life lived without play is at increased risk for stress related diseases, mental health issues, addiction and interpersonal violence.

According to the National Institute, play is the gateway to vitality. By its nature it is uniquely and intrinsically rewarding. It generates optimism, seeks out novelty, makes perseverance fun, leads to mastery, gives the immune system a bounce, fosters empathy and promotes a sense of belonging and community. Each of these play by-products are indices of personal health, and their shortage predicts impending health problems and personal fragility.

Playing is what keeps us feeling youthful, I am not the parent to sit back.. I get involved in all of what we do when taking out my daughter, Ice skating, swimming, cycling, fairs, etc

I see other parents sitting, standing and watching, they look in good health but seem to just want to watch.. not all mind you.. ;)

You are right, we are young at heart.

The wood rats I feed dew that. After I get back and put out their food, once they've eaten all they can hold and they go into hoarding mode, they bump into each other constantly and chip-&-chirp quite a bit. chuckle

It's sew much fun to watch them just goofing off, considering that normally food is too scarce for them to waste any time playing.
