But this one shouldn't get me banned.... I'm calling out NASA.

It just so happens that Jupiter lost its lower stripe a couple years ago. NASA said it was a mystery. I was reading a book from 1885 that says that the surface of Jupiter changes when sunspot activity changes. It also stated that during times of increased sunspot activity, there were also more sun diving comets. We have certainly seen our fair share of sun diving comets lately as well....Maybe the scientists should pick up some more old books and get their heads out of their computer screens..... Just sayin...

Great find Skippy! Thanks for the very enlightening info! Funny how modern scientists (should that be sarcasm?) love to think that our ancestors were complete knuckle draggers...when in fact they had the same mental faculties that we do know. I agree that we have a ton to learn from the ancients (hell even 150-200yrs back as you have found)

keep em coming skippy

We live in an era of arrogance and competition. You are 100 percent right. If they would focus on the pursuit of shared knowledge and learning instead of trying to keep up with the scientist next door, we might actually get somewhere....

Actually skip that is a good find, If I remember rightly, when NASA first told us about the missing band I think the Brits said that they knew it had happened before sometime in the 19th century.

Well at least someone remembered.... If we can't hold on to the knowledge of our past, we'll just have to keep re-learning everything like kids.... or until we blow ourselves up.....

I think we may be at the magnetic borderline of the Milky Way galaxy. Our "scientists" tell us that it takes our solar system 30 million years to cross the galactic plane and that we are actually moving away from it now. My respect for their conclusions is decreasing every day.... But what do I know... I'm just a lunatic.

We live in an era of scientifific/politcally correctness in the pusuit of funding. If you don't toe the line you won't get funding.

Jupiter has an ENORMOUS magnetosphere, so I don't find it strange that Jupiter reacts to changes in the Sun's output. The color bands on the planet must be caused by charged particles.

The little red spot disappeared a few years ago also IIRC.
