I's not a religious radical fanatic. But light hearted comedy about how religious people are often fanatics makes me cry and hit the report abuse button until the light hearted thread is deleted.
i didn't report your thread. i just made a statement that was <after the thought> not very cool of me. getting mad over some dumb ass website. why should i give a f*ck?
sorry.
haha great post, I loved it. I read it in the voice of Jason Beghe from his escape from Scientology interview.

NightHelix Wrote:FreedomStands Wrote:NightHelix, no offense, but you can say your beliefs here if you want. I have, I do always, I made a huge thread about my beliefs called EASY RELIGION IN A NUTSHELL linked in my signature, you can post your beliefs if you want to there (you don't have to of course if you really don't want to, but its no big deal if you do either and it might even help people).
i have in several threads. they all got burned alive by radical non-believers, so i just try and keep it to myself. now if i even mention the word religion i get attacked like a bunch of fleas on a dogs back.
I've explained my beliefs many times to people, I think lots of people like me, even some of the non-religious or anti-religious ones seemed to have settled down a bit since I kept trying to explain things clearly when being misunderstood or accused of things I didn't actually believe.

RE: Here we go. <Concerning The Religious Hate>
Religion was made by man and not the ones being worshiped.
Q: What religion was Jesus?
Q: What religion was Buddha?
Q: What religion was Mohammed?
Q: What religion was ever preached by a prophet/holy man?
I hope it can, but know it won't, end religion discussions anywhere here on LOP.

John The Baptist?
You must be new here.
besides, this was not "religion pushing" thread. it was a thread having to do with the protests going on outside that were getting spread inside the forum.
Most have us have gotten to know each other over the years, for me the past year and some of us that agree on so much were fighting over the disagreements going on with radicals. It was something i felt needed to be discussed but somehow turned into a flaming the Christians thread. I should have known better.

As an agnostic cradle Catholic, I'd like to point out to all freedom-loving Americans that religious hate is un-American as well as anti-intellectual.

So John the Baptist (didn't know he called himself that) was a Jesus pimp?

no one understands that, as a "striving to be better Christian" i don't hate any other beliefs or people of different beliefs. just because other Christians-radical ones- do hate other people and beliefs. so they hate me because im different.
im not the only one, im just the only one that can't keep his mouth shut about it.

John (who Baptized) was a believer in a Messiah that was to come. When he saw Jesus that day, (he was his cousin) but on that particular day he realized who he really was. from what i know about it.

 folks understand.
I'm extremely grateful for my upbringing and my religious education (I was educated by the RC Church all the way through my Bachelor's degree). It made me who I am today ... very open minded and curious. Tolerant. Smart. Unlike in other other educational venues, debate is encouraged in religious apologetics. Some of the most brilliant (and open) minds I have ever encountered were religious.
The perception that religious folks are "dumb" or "brainwashed", or even that they are science-deniers, is at best a small-minded generalization. While religion might also be a mechanism of social control used by tptb, religious and spiritual belief systems are expression of individuals' experience with the world. As such, they are beautiful, complex, rich ...
Just becasue "I don't know" doesn't mean that anyone is "wrong".
Especially when you consider the context of religious thought and expression vs. the context of secular thought and expression. The two are apples and oranges and cannot be opposed in any kind of an intellectually honest way. They are not mutually exclusive. Religious thought is subjective and cannot be evaluated in a prove/disprove/scientific method/objective manner. That methodology should be reserved for factual observations and experiments, and it is intellectually dishonest to apply it to religious systems.
Only in sociology and anthropology of all the sciences would we have a framework for evaluating religion, and that's not validating/verifying religion ... that's examining religion in it's cultural and sociological context.
(I was taught that by clergy, just like I was taught scientific principles such as natural selection, and unflinching historical facts of Western Civilization. There is no conflict. People make conflict where none exists.)
