RE: Hiring Bilingual Employees Is On The Rise
The business community has an agenda so they put their own spin on things. Of course they will tell you they work harder and all that crap. Sometimes it is even true but they don't mention we want workers we can exploit. They won't say we want people who won't ask for a living wage and will except dangerous working conditions even when it is unecessary. They also get off the hook to easy for breaking the law. A poor person gets treated worse if he steals some food because he is hungry than they get treated if someone gets killed because of them or if they hire illegals. It should be on their record. I worked a place where they checked my background yet they are murderers and have no criminal record. There is on standard for the haves and a higher standard for the have nots. They feel they are entitled to special treatment.Until people realize this things will remain the same.

I rest my case with you. Everyone should not have to be english/spanish TRANSLATOR. Go to Mexico and see how many government jobs have to be bilingual.

No, I don't think you did. See she pulled her masters in psychology - Spanish was just her minor. WHICH IS SOMETHING COLLEGES GENERALLY REQUIRE ----> A FOREIGN LANGUATE! She got tired of working as a shrink was all (i sure as hell dont blame her) and she picked up a cushy job making a little less and close to the beach ... no stress..

I would enjoy hearing your point of view if YOU were hispanic. If YOU lived in miami, where 90someodd percent of everyone SPEAKS SPANISH including the government... would love to hear your take on this subject with the shoes on the other foot.

I agree however, everyone should not have to be bilingual. But you know what?

THEY DONT! There are lots of jobs that don't require spanish spoken. Again, excuse making. Its an education for many to be bilingual just as someone goes to school to be a veterinarian. So should we now sit here and b*tch because regular people like yourself cant get a job as a vet and thats bullshit-you shouldnt have to go to school for that!!! ? It just doesnt work. .

I am not pointing my finger at your daughter. She is doing what it takes to get a job.

You say there are "lots of jobs that don't require Spanish" maybe where you live, but the US is in a world of hurt so excuse me when I don't believe you with the unemployment rate so high in Florida.

I have a good friend, his is mother is white, and his father is Hispanic, he is also bilingual. It is easy for him to get a job dealing with the public. But he will be the first one to tell you that Hispanic expect everyone in the US to bow to their needs. Its not their fault when the employers and the government make rules that you must speak their language to work here.

RE: Hiring Bilingual Employees Is On The Rise
Sorry it irritates me that the gov't is pandering to people who refuse to learn English.

The requirements to becoming a US Citizen are as follows:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/m...2ca60aRCRD

http://immigration-law.freeadvice.com/im...ements.htm

Must be admitted to the United States as a lawful permanent resident (LPR), commonly referred to as one who possesses green card status.

Continuous residence in the US for at least five years immediately preceding the applicant's filing for naturalization.

Actual physical residence (within the state in which the petition is filed) during at least the three months immediately before filing for US citizenship is another requirement.

Physical presence within the US for a total of at least one half of the period of required continuous residence.

Continuous residence (but not necessarily physical presence) in the United States from the date of filing the naturalization application up to the date of being sworn in as a US citizen.

The ability to read, write and speak ordinary English unless they are physically unable to do so due to a disability such as being blind or deaf, or suffer from a developmental disability or mental impairment.

A basic understanding of the fundamentals of US history and government. There is an oral test that covers fundamentals of US history and government and it is required for naturalization.

Good moral character and an affinity for the principles of the US Constitution. Good moral character is reflected in the applicant's behavior before applying for US citizenship. Good moral character is demonstrated by paying taxes and having a clean criminal record, for example, and is an important part of qualifying for naturalization.

Applicants should be at least 18 years of age at the time of filing. Certain exceptions exist, however, for the children of other permanent residents who are seeking naturalization.

So, if you HAVE TO be able to read and write English to become a citizen then WHY is there such pandering to non-English speakers?

It has to do with purchase power and employment ethics. They will take jobs no one else will. Crops rotted because they left.

The state’s number one cash crop, lettuce, was hit especially hard by the worker shortage. In fact, a nationwide lettuce shortage last winter was blamed in part on SB 1070 and the resulting effect on migrant labor.
