Home ideas for people who are anti-debt?
I refuse to get a loan, and I am almost at poverty level income. I have finally come up with an idea for a home other than a travel trailer.

Shipping containers!!! Buy one shipping container at a time and renovate it. When you have more money buy another shipping container and add it on to your house buy stacking it or cutting a whole in the door way.

Any other crazy ideas for a poor person that doesn't want debt?

How much is a shipping container? I bet they're not as cheap as we'd think they are.

The real problem is always the cost of the land to put it on.

Also, there's always the municipality to deal with, I know in my town if I dropped a shipping container on a plot of land, the code enforcement folks and the planning/zoning officers would tell me it wasn't allowed, didn't meet town code, blah blah.

This is an interesting subject for me too because I quit my job so I don't enable the government any longer via paying income tax to them... I do have a lot of savings, but without steady income I don't want to spend it all on rent. Looking for ideas as well. For now, my plan is to rent a house with a bunch of friends, which helps keep the cost of everything way down to a bare minimum. But sure would be nice to have my own "home". It's cool tho. I'm older but this is like going back to the college days of parties and video games. LOL

If you live near the coast, you could buy a boat to live on. I'm not sure if you would have to pay fees to dock it, but it's worth a thought.

With all them regulations and taxes a person's home is their their castle - not.
Saying home ownership ain't what it use to be many long years ago most places. And that not even including that the real estate artificial bubble busting has made nearly permanent debt slaves out of 10's of millions.

As a person with no credit and little money I'm saying try to be happy in a rental or find a person with a home to move in with no lease with your name on it required. Use any savings by doing that for survival preps.

It's late in the game.

As for saving up for a house it would take 20 years to have enough to buy one cash at poverty wages. And this would be a POS house that would still need work. I figure i'll buy a shipping container and start renovating it before I buy the property.

Oh and shipping containers are about $2300 used and $3800 new, for a 20 ft one, 40 ft ones are like 3500 used, 6500 new. Carve in a couple windows and a door, frame it up, insulate. Instant house.

LOTS of energy saving advantages with that, both for winter and summer.

The absolute best idea I ever saw of this type was a floating island, built of used barges and covered in sand. Even had a hut and a palm tree on it, plus all the space inside the barges under the sand...
