Honey vs Sugar
We have all heard of the benefits of honey and the drawbacks of sugar (sugar here is defined as cane or beet processed sugar, not high fructose corn syrup).
Well, I stumbled on this website and the person has done some research and posted charts of the effects and content of each (sugar and honey) - very informative !

http://www.buzzaboutbees.net/honey-vs-sugar.html

I very rarely drink soda or anything "store bought" with artificial sweeteners and mainly make "Sun Tea" sweetened with honey as my drink of choice. I have found a local honey producer and get honey in bulk at a good price. The side benefit is because this is locally produced honey - consuming it has made my allergies pretty much go away because the bee's use the pollen from local plants to make the honey !

they are both fattening.

I like unsweetened tea. I have no dental work and don't drink sodas, either, just beer!

You are correct, but, if you read at the link I provided you would find out the following:

"Granulated sugar is 100% carbohydrate derived from sugar. Honey carbohydrate is also comprised almost entirely of sugar, however, the types of sugars are entirely different. Granulated sugar consists of 100% sucrose, whereas honey consists of only about 1.5g of sucrose, and the rest is Fructose and Glucose. This is particularly relevant if you are an athlete or are engaging in sport, due to the provision of both short and sustained energy provision. You can read a little more about this on my page ‘Calories in Honey’ – there’s a link at the bottom of this page."

I've been experimenting with sugar alcahols. Erythritol is only .1 calories per gram. Tastes very similar to sugar. So far not had the bad gastric effects of maltitol with it. I'm using erythritol to make raspberry juice soda. Tastes great.. wish it wasn't so expensive.

In the world of sweet, honey is the best...anything processed, high fructose etc bad. Everything in moderation but when companies are churning out compounds from corn and calling it sweetener and it's good for you the bs flag goes up for me...so those of you saying fructose is fructose, how do you like your gmo corn?

It really is.

RE: Honey vs Sugar
Between natural sugar, and artificial sweeteners, I choose suger every time.

Sugar is natural. Again sugar is natural. It is grown primarily in two plants. Sugar cane, and sugar beets. You cannot get any more natural than that.

The war against sugar is bullshit, along with the war against dairy, which is another topic.

People who believe in manmade global warming, have issues with natural sugar. chuckle

White sugar is as natural as cocaine.

Turbinado sugar is better in that respect.

Sugar refinement is an intricate industrial process...

Thanks for all of the input - positive and negative. Heartflowers

I was only trying to point out the differences between honey and natural sugar (cane and beet) which you rarely find in food anymore.
Everything is now Aspartame and High Fruitcose Corn Syrup which is a whole different story.

I will stand by my assertion that my consumption of local honey has cured my allergies !
