Hostage Escapes Motel Standoff, Runs Toward Police Who Open Fire and Kill Him

Mark Eric Henderson Jr. saw his opportunity to escape from the Woodbury motel room where he and seven other people were being held hostage early Friday, and he took it.

When the gunman who had been tormenting the group told Henderson to go to the window to see if any police were outside, Henderson took his chance and made a beeline for the door. The kidnapper opened fire at him in response but missed. As Henderson bolted out the door toward them, Woodbury police opened fire and cut him down.

The 19-year-old St. Paul man died later that day at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

"He tried to get out to save his life," said his mother, Tawana Henderson. "When he opened the hotel door to run out, the police opened fire and killed him."

As you can see in this clip, the police initially reported the innocent hostage was armed and fired on police. A witness, who did not want to be identified, said he was watching everything take place and the man was not armed. Contradicting the police's story at the time, he said, "I didn't see a gun, I didn't see anything. The cops opened up probably 10 to 15 rounds on him."

Wouldn't matter, cops responded to a hostage situation. They should know a lone gunman wouldn't risk his life like that.

oh...so now if you are "grabbing your pants" while escaping from an armed
kidnapper it is ok for cops to kill you dead?

It all comes down to training. Doesn't matter whether we are discussing tasers, or shootings, not all law enforcement is equal in training.

You got it all wrong.

Cops are, and always have been, nothing but thugs working to protect the ruling elite from the "unwashed masses".

They've always behaved this way.

It's just becoming more and more obvious now that we have more media and tools like video cameras on cell phones.

It's just becoming more and more obvious now that we have more media and tools like video cameras on cell phones.

That's your perception. I have friends and family who are law enforcement and none fit your model. There are millions of interactions all day long, there are bound to be a few problem individuals popping up with some frequency.

Part of the problem is the fact we've herded people into cities with ever increasing populations. I grew up around Mayberry type cops, that no longer works now that the cities have grown. There are no cities with populations >1 million where crime is under control and the police are all professionals.
