How Wealth Reduces Compassion
Berkeley psychologists Paul Piff and Dacher Keltner ran several studies looking at whether social class (as measured by wealth, occupational prestige, and education) influences how much we care about the feelings of others. In one study, Piff and his colleagues discreetly observed the behavior of drivers at a busy four-way intersection. They found that luxury car drivers were more likely to cut off other motorists instead of waiting for their turn at the intersection. This was true for both men and women upper-class drivers, regardless of the time of day or the amount of traffic at the intersection. In a different study they found that luxury car drivers were also more likely to speed past a pedestrian trying to use a crosswalk, even after making eye contact with the pedestrian.

RE: How Wealth Reduces Compassion
Flawed study, how does anyone know what the net worth of the driver is?
I used to be an auto mechanic and worked on Lincolns. I've driven other high end cars around for customers as well.
I can tell you that the car may be more of a sign of how deeply in debt they are than how rich they are.
One of the richest men I know right now drives a 15 year old pickup truck that he bought used.
One of the richest men I knew back when I was a mechanic prefered to drive his old VW Rabbit in the winter and his 12 year old mid 70's Grand Marquis in the summer and only drove the Lincoln he had back and forth to work. Multimillionare owned several large factories and wore bluejeans and plaid shirts when he wasn't at work and raced yachts in the summer which he towed around with the other boat(the Grand Marque).

Mid level managers "treat" themselves with expencive cars and rich people save their money.
