We move and stars move. If you watch that long enough, an angel comes down with a list of all the distances.

There's nothing quite like a bunch of primitive superstitious morans discussing theoretical physics and foolishly claiming that since we can't know everything we can't know anything.

It is kinda like music. But back on topic. We are going to get a bunch of politicians that will create incentive models to "get people back to work in a tough economy." That is called "forward chaining" Bernanke schooled a bunch of D.C. educators today on the topic of weather the next generation will actually have a higher standard of living than the current generation.

The goal could be flying cars powered by higgs bosons. The goal could be the cure for cancer. this path is called "backward chaining".

Add both techniques up and you might get somewhere. So what you waht you wat you want?

A post dealing with the stated topic at hand, is always good.

I don't know. I trust what the (amateur and professional) scientists tell me, which can probably be pulled up on the webs somewhere or at your local library.

That is my point unless I am missing it. We are both guests and there is a movement to shutdown such activity.

If we prove the unified field theory perhaps the regs might not send us back to the predictable parts of the interwebs?

Ready to rock on the topic of how do we know how far stars are.

Distance of stars are determined by triangulation with precise measuring instruments. Keep in mind the earth is moving thousands of miles and hour around the sun.

You can determine the line of sight at 9pm at point x on Monday and repeat the exercise on Tuesday. The star and the 2 different points in space of the earth comprise your triangle.

Triangulation gives you the distance of the star from earth. While you can express distance as miles or km, it is usually expressed as light years.

Distance/speed of light = # of light years

Is there an empirical problem with measuring light in traditional seconds and how difficult would it be to convert to a quantum measurement?
