How far would you go to save some one ?
I was watching some of the film, the day after tomorrow last night , the part where they where on the library steps with a wall of water approaching, the lad has a choice he can run into the library to higher ground, save him self or go back for the girl, who was retrieving a bag from a taxi,
of course he goes back for the girl
on yahoo this morning a roofer in the states jumped into a tank of acid to save his friend,
Jesus said no greater love, than some one laying down their life , putting them self in harms way to save their friends , or some one.
How far would you go to save some one, ?
I wonder to one day, when things go South, how many will be only interested in saving them selves, and how many will try and help and save others ?

RE: How far would you go to save some one ?
I think the answer to that is highly dependant upon the other person's perceived value to the rescuer...
For a friend, a really close friend, I'd risk my life. For a girl - especially a hot looking girl I found attractive - who might show some GRATITUDE (I know how BAD that sounds, but we're being realistic here, remember?) I would almost certainly do the same. For a family member, again without question I would risk my life.
Now, for a stranger? Or someone that gives the impression of being someone or something I intensely disrespect? (a gang member, or some idiot with their pants falling off) Or maybe a vagrant? An obvious criminal?
Most likely not a chance in hell.

If we don't got each other... what else we got?
If your raise a gun at me, i raise a gun at you...
If you fall, i will catch you, and another will catch us both....
A stranger is just a friend that you haven't met yet....
Your emotion's can be just as strong for an enemy, as it is to you as a friend....
Living with value and love, or living with installed choices and fear....
Accepting or rejecting information, ignoring or reacting...
it is all for the individual to decide....
The real questions asked, are not in the context of the situation and who, but rather, within you:
a) are you in the position to save that person
b) will that person drag you down with them
c) Do I hold the right values before committing to an action.... (for example, is it worth the risk saving children's lives at the expense of one old man, the hypothetical situations aka "what ifs" are endless with no right answer).....
Then realize that you can't save them all, but do what you can for their journey in life.......

I've got PTSD and a broken body.
..and the f*cker I tried to save still went and died.
I'm broke. My career's in the toilet and all of my friends have f*cked off.. but still, I'm glad I tried.
I feel strangely blessed. All is well.
(A vat of f*cking acid though?? ..man, that's going to sting)

Easy Come, Easy go... the flow of life my friend....
You have to at least give it a go, or you never know...

Some are hard-wired to meet danger (protect life), others are trained to act - to be in service to others. I have the unequivocal short-list imprinted in me (just so long as I'm in their presence) or can arrive in time. I have seen the love in their eyes...
It's no ego-trip when from Mother to those few closest, say upon parting, "be careful." It's that sort of sentiment where a Man, in his secret heart, weeps - in humility and gratitude @ being loved so...

I wouldn't just die for my kids, I'd kill, torture and eat people if required.

Bet RFID chipping is going to be just like the launch of an I-Pad product for you with that attitude then.....
Next contestant for the Hunger Games Part Deux perhaps?
The big quandary I have with your statement, is when does one become "required" to torture and eat people?

I'm a firefighter, so I accept that I may have to lay down my life for a total stranger. But in the moment, no one can truly predict what they will do. And though I am willing to lose my life in the line of duty, I doubt I would willingly commit suicide in order to save someone else.
