I'm also curious as to what it's going for $$ per square foot.
I ended up going with Granite.. (At Lowes) still shopping for the Best price.. Currently at $85 Sq Ft... Maroon Bay..(Which is a black Granite with gray overtones)

what color are your cabinets? appliances?

Cabinets Honey maple..Appliances Brushed Stateliness steel.. Floor and Back splash Grey Slate tile...

Am redoing my kitchen (after flooding.)

I'm getting a granite - $3,000 for the counter and installation. (@ 24 linear feet.0

VT industries, stone surfaces, name = Giallo Ornamental

The kitchen guy really poo, pooed the butchers block and the Corian.

When I was at Lowes in Jan - they let me know they are now offering cheaper stone counters. I didn't want a contractor not associated with the orig biz doing the work.

I am doing mine in Black pearl Granite. New cabinets are Rustic Alder in a fairly med. to dark color. Plus I am adding a butcher block insert near the main sink. This insert can be removed for cleaning and tuning up if it get too many knife marks. Because the cabinets, and the counter will be fairly dark, we are adding extra lights over work areas, plus under counter lights.

The cool thing is I am a 42 year carpenter. I will do all the cabinetry install, and wood flooring etc. including crown moldings and so forth. And the even cooler thing is I work for a cabinet company, which is owned by the biggest granite, marble company in Southern Nevada. I will be getting a very heavy discount. chuckle

What have you heard concerning granite containing high levels of uranium found to be radioactive?
