Well, I think the most worthwhile would be to get their stories to expose the realities of their experience. I don't think you would call it a high horse really, if you empathized with the civilian victims of war.
Imagine for a moment that you're sitting around in your home, and there are military trucks driving by, and suddenly your door is banged in and your family is rounded up and pushed on the floor along with you, and suddenly you hear a gunshot. Then talk to me about some high horses and we can go to a rodeo.
FreedomStands, point understood and taken. I apologise for talking to you about high horse. Of course I empathise with civilian victims of war. I've been antiwar since my father, a disabled WWII vet, shared his feelings with me when I was a teenager in the early 60s. Once again I apologise.

Thanks for the apology, I understood what you said as well and also had taken that into account, but civilians are not trained or accustomed to stress and war, and it is harsh to put them in situations against their will (civilians have not usually signed up to go to war, but it is a reality forced upon them).
It is terrible when soldiers are injured, either by their friends or by other circumstances, but it seems even worse to me when civilians, men, women, children, babies, and even animals are caught in the middle, hurt, and treated with suspicious and put under threat through wars they didn't even ask to be part of or join willingly.
My ability to speak my opinion has nothing to do with brainwashed Americans on a murdering spree in the ME. If you took the time to read history you would see that war always leads to a lessening of freedoms. Look at the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, etc. etc. Stop saying that soldiers protect freedom because they not only don't protect it they take it away. You knowingly or unknowingly are supporting oppression and murder.

CD,
I thank you for thinking of the Veterans and what they gave for the country they "thought" they were fighting for.
I seen this photo today and it touched me very hard. We should also think of the families of the Veterans that served and did not come home.
I challenge all that read this to look at this photo for about 30 seconds and think of how this woman feels right at the moment the photo was taken. Notice the man at the top right of the photo looking on at the girl. He too is touched by her and her loss.
When a Veteran dies in a war it touches more people lives than one could imagine. When a person serves in the military and become a Veteran that too changes their lives forever. More than any non Veteran could imagine.
I wrote and recorded this back in 2006. War had already drug on and on... Now its six years later. We're not fighting in Iraq (or so they say). Maybe soon now it'll be the same in Afghanistan. Those of you not from military families & who hold contempt for what you just can't understand, those of you who think our vets are nothing more than murderers, I feel for you.
Led Into War
Ded Book
Led into war by lies that justified
calling out for a preemptive strike.
Watching you fight this war, no end in sight,
soldier I want you to know we'll try to make things right.
We've waited for years for leaders of this land
to give us some reason we can understand,
but all we have heard from leaders of this land
are silly slogans saying "we must take a stand".
Most of us in our country have seen the light
unlike elected politicians left and right.
Military families we got your back,
your sons and daughters betrayed by political hacks.
We waited for years now we're making a move
not needing violence to eliminate your ruse.
Like the Shakey man said we need a leader now,
not political shills with their phony Gospel plow.
Democracy in the name of a God like yours,
kicking in the windows, smashing the "heathen" doors.
There's a better God I know, I want you to fear,
if that's what it takes to end your war this year.
You believe in your afterlife where the Judgment looms,
so won't you consider what you did in your deceitful rooms?
Theres a consquence for all, even folk like you,
and Jesus would not forgive all that you do.
We've waited for years for leaders of this land
to give us some reason we can understand.
We've waited for years, now we're making a move,
not needing violence to eliminate your ruse.
Nice. Thanks for sharing.

It's hard to be compassionate to the veterans I know. They are the dirty old men, the addicts, the child molesters and the con-artists. If you lived with one instead of having this emotional one time experience, you'd not be bragging about crying with one. That's their only power and claim to fame. Most were only in for a year or so and got out. Milk it.

It makes me want to puke that you post a bulletin about your 'moving experience'. You're a saint for crying with that vet. What a load of crap. Use someone else to elevate your compassionate public persona.

I've met some very criminal sociopathic veterans too, joking about how they threw non-english speaking civilians out of helicopters in Vietnam during mock interrogations just for kicks and laughs, really sick stuff.
Sniping people going to the bathroom in Afghanistan just because they were bored.
I'm not lying. I've talked to people who have told the most insane sicko stories ever of the evil of the military. I've also known good people and good soldiers, but a ton of sociopaths are hiding out in the military too.

I still haven't gotten over the Nazi veterans that gave their lives for a the greater glory of Germany. I'll be honoring the American veterans as soon as we've given enough honor and praise to the brave Nazis.
I can respect that!
Veterans come from ALL countries and those who died had a mother and a father. They had dreams of a future perhaps to marry, own a house or start a business.
The effects of service in the military is no respecter of race, country or religion.
When a person loses a loved one in a war be it their from the former Soviet Union, East Germany, Iraq, China or America it hurts just the same.
Perhaps when your done morning the loss of your German comrades, perhaps later you'll have the feelings for others in other countries also.
Until then it's not offensive that you feel this way.
Just because I can live in Mexico does not take away the right to my opinion of America, I’m still an American.
"My" 1st amendment = Freedom of speech for “All” Americans.
Look it up you’ll see!

I agree, but sometimes there is good/bad.
USA/UK was the good, even if USSR sacrifised endlessly to win the war.
stalin a shithead, and so was hitler, would you enjoy living under em?
