Personal responsiblity is something conservatives push, but when you look closely you'll discover its a very stupid idea. Republiscams like to praise things like "hard work", "supporting yourself", or "making a living". But the name tells the truth. These ideas are a scam. Here's why.
The amount of stress and tension that is created for people worrying about things like "putting food on the table", "paying rent", "finding a job", or "loosing your job" just isn't worth it. Its alot better just to know that what you need will be provided for you and in return you put a little work in toward running things. It eliminates all your stress, doesn't it?
Second, and more importantly to republiscams, since we all know they dont care about people, is effinceincy. Having thousands of private businesses each with their own specialty just isnt very effeicnt. It requires contracts, sales, marketing and countless hours of wasted labor. Think about how much more effiecnt a community would operate under a societal vs. personal model. Take farming for example, right now a farmer has to buy or rent land, negotiate a contract, find places to sell the food to, and market it. In a societal model, land ownership doesn't exist, and its very simple. Crops planted, truck picks it up, brings it to central distribution point. That simple.
I don't know about you, but i want the government to take responsiblity for me. Id be more than willing to give society a few hours of work in exchange for it

RE: Benefits of societal responsibility vs. personal responsiblity
Both are important.
Society has an obligation to teach individuals.
Individuals have an obligation to society not to be a dumb, lazy f*ck up.

Everybody has to exercise some kind of personal responsiblity, like not having five kids when our planet is already overpopulated, but people shouldn't have personal economic responsibility

RE: I'd rather let the government take care of me
There is nothing wrong with personal responsibility, but there are definitely a lot of hidden negative implications that swirl around the buzzwords "personal responsibility".
I wish I could credit the author but I'm sorry I have no idea where I read it ... but I recently read an article that pointed out no matter who we are talking about, those who climb the ladder of success almost inevitably turn around and pull the ladder up from those still yet to climb.
People who tout personal responsibility as a cure-all for society's ills often ARE those who do take great care to improve themselves and their lives. The danger is that those who are successful and have taken "personal responsibility" for their lives, oftentimes believe that those who have not experienced such successes are not taking "personal responsibility" for their lives and that simply by doing so, these people will succeed. The implication is that ALL that is required for any one individual to succeed is for that individual to "take personal responsibility".
In the broader context of a larger society, this is not a cure-all. Many individuals are not equipped to independently succeed without assistance for whatever reason (many of the reasons are the fault of society's failures to date), no mattter how much personal responsibility they assume. To inisist that simply taking personal responsibility for themselves is the fix promotes the belief that those who do not have success are failing in their responsibilities to themselves (lazy).
Furthermore, it absolves the "persional responsibility takers" from being responsible for others (society) in any way because of the attitude that they took responsibility for themselves and this is all that everyone should do. This attitude would sound like "My neighbor is such a piece of shit. I work and pay my taxes and all he does is collect and sit on his ass. f*ck those people like him. If they had to take personal responsibility for themselves, they wouldn't be such lazy pieces of shit." Or even "f*ck it, I'll dump these chemicals here illegally. I take personal responsibility for all my actions, so if I have to pay a fine, I will. Besides, I pay the clean up costs out of my taxes."
However righteous it might FEEL ... it is not the cure-all for everyone's problems, and it tends to widen the divides that are present in society. Whether justified or not, it doesn't actually fix the problems. It just makes some people feel good about all their hard work and bad about the perceived lack of others'.

Well, if you didn't have things like marketing, sales, insurance, advertising, finance, etc, that take up valuable resources away from what actually needs to be done, i think they'red be room for everybody, including the "lazy f*ck ups"

You're a narcissist. You think nobody should be allowed freedom because you want to be a lifelong baby sucking at a teat.
What flies out the window along with the freedom you denounce is creativity, ingenuity, questing, invention, and the will to achieve. Of course since you don't possess these drives you can't conceive of it as being a great loss to humanity for them to disappear.
Suggest you move to a country that already has state teat-sucking firmly in place. But you're too lazy to do that too now aren't you.

Why do your posts always sound so much smarter than mine?
When i read your post, i say, nobody could possibly disagree with that. And then when people like Mike read my posts their like "what a lazy sack of shit that LeftWing Terrorist guy is."
Anyway, i should use your post as a promotional ad for a moneyless community
