My wife's water broke last night, 7 weeks early. She's in the hospital right now (I just got home after 11 hours up there, she's sleeping now), and Mrs. Mondo is pretty upset. The little guy is also breach, so a C section and a premature baby are almost surely in our future. Add to that we are also moving on Monday, and everything is in quite the state and packed up. I'm worried out of my tree, and just want my lady and new baby to come home and be OK.

So, I'm asking for some positive thoughts to be directed my wife's way to keep the little guy in the oven for as long as possible so he can develop more. I'm not even sure I believe these kind of things actually help, but it can't hurt! Also, any advice/expectations from anyone who has had a premature baby would be appreciated. Thanks.

We had some complications that terrified me, but it will work out.

I know you won't be able to stop worrying, but you really don't need to.

The Mondos will all be okay.

My sister just had a baby more premature than you and the boy was fine. 4 pounds, perfectly healthy and proportioned fairly normally. Plumped right up.

Pretty routing believe it or not. Not ideal but nothing uncommon.

my oldest came 5 weeks 6 days early. similar situation, water bag breech. They recommended we deliver then and said time in NICU can be safer than time in the oven after the 6week mark and due to potential infection. She spent 19days there. It was helpful, as we were able to get used to having a baby about.

If this isn't your first, and I think I remember you've 1 older, then the juggle between NICU care and running back and forth and all of it would be a lot of serious stress unless you have constant care for your older one.

One good side to NICU is they constantly monitor, check different thing like oxygen levels, etc... but time in the oven can't be beat. Every day in is at least 2 days less in NICU, which is hella expensive. If you don't have insurance to cover it, then even your wife in hospital bed rest (which may be the recommended option) may be cheaper. Weigh that option carefully.

as I was reading your plea I was seeing the little guy in a real hurry to get here. Just remember to giggle at the enthusiasm of the determination of all his effort. Encourage him and stand by him and your lady. Help her know that everything will be just fine and thank her for the sacrifice she's making to birth him early. Set her mind at ease.

You're gonna love this little one and he'll bring you both much joy!
