I'm Just Using My Android for Games , Internet and Apps Now. No Phone. Ideas?
I've downloaded a few free games tonight... Got that barcode reader...
What I've done actually is reduce my monthly plan from $100 to $40 by switching to another phone without a data plan.
I'm now using my Android Smartphone more than I did before when I had a plan on it by using the free Wi-Fi I find around my town. Privacy concerns aren't a big deal to me anymore because I don't use that phone for banking, email, facebooking, phone calls, or texting. It's basically like an itouch to me now.
So what are some must have apps and games? I've got 2 gigs to fill....
One other question... How do I download paid games and apps using wi-fi if my phone is no longer on the network? Will they still go to my phone bill?

2 gigs won't last long.... Get at least 8... You can download torrents on your phone and get the paid games and apps if you are like me and don't like to pay for anything.

Download ttorrent from the marketplace... Idk, I am only connected to WiFi on my phone, too, and everything works.
Try 9mm (game)
You can fit every Nintendo game ever made on your phone also with an emulator from market... Up to playstation games.
What kinds of games do you like?

On my laptop I've got over 10,000 emulated games from the Commodore 64 to Nintendo 64.... I never play any of them... lol. I like Scrabble, Yahtzee, Video Poker... Games that make you think but you don't have to devout a day to them.... I also like useful apps that keep me informed about solar events and earthquakes....

RE: I'm Just Using My Android for Games , Internet and Apps Now. No Phone. Ideas?
Great thread, looking for ideas as well.
Original Droid, long since completed my contract and finally told cell phone company to go F themselves and their extortion rates.
Except my plan to use it as an internet phone is not working out. The Droid Skype app has so many bad reviews I didn't even bother looking into it. And there's not much else unless I wanna try out something called Nimbuzz or go to my old PC voice chatting secret weapon, Yahoo Messenger... There is a YM app for Droid but I think I tried it for a short while years ago and deleted it.
I did root my phone finally. Yawn. Big deal, new "themes" or whatever they call em (skins). None of em seemed any better than the stock default skin.
Right now my Droid sits unused and powered off all day. I have no idea what to do with it, I am a huge gaming addict but I've never played any games on the Droid except for my personal favorite, OpenSudoku which I play every time I do #2 (TMI obv LOL).
HOW CAN I MAKE MY DROID WORK AS A NET PHONE THRU MY PC ROUTER???

Already have 3D sun... it actually lags about half a day to a day from when I read the solar events here... I think LOP needs its own app....

RE: I'm Just Using My Android for Games , Internet and Apps Now. No Phone. Ideas?
Just to clarify... I've tried lots of the games on the Market (google play i guess they call it now, the morans...) and after about 10 mins they always get deleted.
Droid gaming - or more precisely, gaming on such a tiny screen - has no redeemable value for me that I can see. Except, like I say, a game like Sudoku. I also kept a Backgammon game on there too, forget the exact name. It was okay, a time-passer, that's all.
Angry Birds was just horrid. And again, I'm a huge gamer on PC or Xbox. Droid is blechh, yuck, horrid.
All I want to do is to be able to allow someone to ring me thru the internet, leave it on all day and connected thru the wifi router. My research hasn't found anything good for this. Skype is the obvious first answer most give, but Skype is rumored to absolutely suck and be pretty useless. Of course I'd pay for my minutes if it worked... but I'm not willing to even try based on all the things I read from other users of the app.

I'm a sun buff and I downloaded a good app for like $2 years ago, forget the name of it tho. It just goes to the NASA site and gets the blue, yellow, green SOHO images. It can loop the last 50 images and do diff resolutions (for diff connect speeds). lemme turn my phone on and look.
It's called SolarMax.by Ghost Leopard software.
Quite honestly I don't think it does anything you can't do on SOHO site thru a browser with Flash enabled? I dunno. It is more convenient than doing that tho and glad I bought it.

Me thinks Droid will surpass IPhone. Me learning programming and hope to quit my job when I create an awesome RPG game.

One thing I read is to use airplane mode all the time. That way the phone isn't trying to communicate with the cell tower all the time for no reason. Made sense to me, I dunno. Can still connect with wifi even with airplane mode on.

I found an amazing RC plane app for free. It's hard enough to make it a worthy challenge but easy enough to make you keep playing. It's not even a game... You just try to get better at flying. If anyone is interested, I can go look on my android to see what it was called. Also, I found a great Video poker app that works great on the small screen...
