So at 20 years old, a non college student is waking up early and putting on the hard hat and going to work for 8-12 hours a day. No fun, no party but these are the future stronghold of intuitive positions within the company. These 20 year old full time workers are going to be the ones who have all the answers when things dont go right. But these same men and women are the ones who must work for this company for 20+ years before they get into a middle class pay bracket. They sweat and toil their lives away just to slip into middle class. Just to make a measely 50k a year.

Meh think the nations unemployment rate is high? You could easily triple that rate to 25% percent unemployment if you work in construction.

Unless you go the professional career, Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer....et al...then you are awarded a diploma because you met the systems requirements......

4 years in school - check
Good grades - check
Tows the line - check

Instant automaton!

I agree.

There is a difference between a Degree in Undemanding Fluff and a degree that requires a great deal of math and science.

If you got a degree in Philosophy that's fine, but why are you shocked to discover it's not nearly as marketable as a degree that allows us to keep the Electric grid up and running, or electronic components in aircraft working?

I think the entire education system needs to be scrapped and revamped, but in the meanwhile there;s no one to blame but you if you took the lazy path because you were unwilling to work hard for a sound degree.

I didn't take "the lazy path". I majored in what I enjoyed which is creative writing. A math whiz might have to work really hard in such subjects. Just because I didn't force myself to do something I have zero interest in doesn't make me lazy.

Why bother having a forum at all if people aren't allowed to express unsanctioned opinions?

What are you, 8 years old? tattling to mommy about those mean kids 'calling out' educated people?

If your education is so superior it ought to be able to withstand the slings and arrows of the great unwashed who don't take you as seriously as you take yourselves, shouldn't it?

I guess not.

But these same men and women are the ones who must work for this company for 20+ years before they get into a middle class pay bracket. They sweat and toil their lives away just to slip into middle class. Just to make a measely 50k a year.

Meanwhile in college towns you have 20 year olds partying, having fun, being liberal, gettin drunk on Tuesday night and going to class in sweat pants with a few shots of vodka to wake up instead of coffee. Big fat bags under their eyes. Not even paying attention in class. Party party party party party. The graduation IQ is diluted with dimwits making most college idiots smart enough to graduate as long as they stay consistent. So this college boy/girl graduates and they're invited to middle class. Invited upon graduation. Now that you graduated, you have have ANY middle class job you want, it doesnt even matter if it's not associated with the degree you "earned".

Heres the trick, these jobs for these graduates are not even labor jobs. They're party jobs. They're jobs made for people to sit back and let the non college graduates toil over. The college graduate only has one true assignment each and every day, that assignment is to dress up and look nice, walk around with that cup of joe and always have something ne and funny and witty to say to other college grads. Then after 8 hours of standing around milking the true labor force of their hard earned wages, the college grads go to their fitness gyms to meet up with one another and then off to expensive restaurants to have a couple drinks and dine.

Graduating college with a bach in liberal science and walk right into a desk job and play on the internet all day sipping coffee. Getting paid 75k a year for doing jack squat. Jobs like reporting analyst, disaster recovery manager, senior project manager, sales incentive strategy manager, clerical manager, operations coordinator, human resources manager, program officer and sooo many more useless fycking jobs that do not have impacts on the big picture for companies....These are all bullshyt wank your pud jobs. These people have no impact on the big picture but they get paid twice as much, three times as much hell 4 times as much as skilled laborers working at the same facility.

Are you pissed too that these goddamn liberal college graduates transition from partying in college to partying at the office all day? You get paid $11 an hour only because your company is being invaded by liberal college graduates that are getting uber wages that dilute your wages. You are solely responsible for the bettering or the worstening of your company yet you get paid in peanuts.

College is this disgusting scam, it's this tumor thats feeding on it's host. It once was a prestigious place where tomarrow's brightest minds went to discover the world and to help push new zeniths in the sciences of the world. Now college is this dilluted cesspool full of idiots but these idiots get all the good jobs. Theres almost no difference between a college grad and a high school grad. If we're talking 2-4 year programs. Those college kids dont even learn any good skills for the career they wanted to go to, so why do they get a free acceptance for jobs that are not even remotely relavent to their "studies".

Gotta boycott these colleges. Tell them to go fyck off, make companies create their own work forces, not let companies get spoon fed college graduates automatically. Make your own employees from scratch.

You haven't walked in their shoes, and they haven't walked in yours.

Degrees doesn't mean jack, sorry op, but it's all about experience, connections and/or luck.

Yeah, doctors never learned anything in college. Neither did lawyers or engineers. I'm so thankful they were all just lucky and connected.

OP was referring to four year bachelor degrees I believe

Refer: "Graduating college with a bach in liberal science and walk right into a desk job and play on the internet all day sipping coffee."

Dude - lawyers, doctors, and engineers get bach degrees too. In fact a huge number of engineers, like me, never pursue advanced degrees.

We're surrounded? Well, that simplifies our problem.

As I said, if you wanted a degree in Philosophy (or creative writing) that's fine. I hope you enjoy it.

But it's unrealistic to expect it to be viewed in the same light as a math and science heavy discipline.

I don't make the rules. Reality is what it is.

I enjoy writing as well. But I don't think it's going to pay the bills in the same manner Electrical Engineering will. The way I see it, you find a practical way to keep a roof over your head and enjoy writing as a hobby.

That way you don't have lots of student loans to pay back for a degree that is not in high demand.

(As an aside, J. D. Salinger and Nabakov and Dickens didn't learn to write by going to a school. Just think about it.)

Sometimes you need to exercise the discipline to study/ pursue things that don't feel like Happy Play Time.

And while you may not be personally lazy, I know many, many college students who are. Can't be bothered to read the mterial, can't be bothered to study, can't be bothered to turn in work that's one ito above mediocre.

That's laziness. And it's endemic.

I guess not.

I didn't get that out of his post at all.

To me he is saying that it was unfair to lock 2 other college-bashing threads but leave this one up.

Maybe you are actually trying to criticize the locking of the 2 other college-bashing threads, but it is a weird way to do it.

For the record, I not only went to college (7 years) but I have taught many college courses.

And I completely support all so-called "college bashing" threads.

I don't think criticizing college or college grads is actually "bashing" at all.

I am not offended in the least. I'm not offended by this thread and I wasn't offended by Richard Strong's thread and I wasn't offended by Monkey-whatever-name-is thread. I thought they were funny.

I am offended that thread policing has extended to prohibiting any poster (or certain posters) from expressing their opinion about something so innocuous as the topic of higher education however they want to.

And I bet most college grads here would agree with me.

No, I totally misunderstood his post! I apologize. We are on the same page.

To me it's insane that threads critical of our educational system are being muzzled. I mean, is it reallt such a controversial topic?

If compulsory education made people smarter, better citizensm then after 100 years of it we should be living in Utopia. Instead, we live in Idiocracy.

Surely there are inferences to be drawn from this state of affairs?

I'm all for genuine education. What I object to is the conformity of opinion and brainwashing masquerading as education in this country.
