wall I now know why TPTB send young men to war!
Because after having had a few goes on my sons Battlefield 3 live, I realise that at 50yo I am absolutely garbage and wouldn't last five seconds on a battlefield, much to my 13 year olds amusement as he was practically rolling about the floor laughing.
So if any of you younger guys playing BF3 kill someone about twenty times in a session you know who it it is!

The thing is I used to have really fast reactions when I was a kid. We used to play drop the hammer in my metal work class and I was the best in class, always manging to catch it before it hit the ground, middle age is a bummer!

My kids keep asking me to play video games with them all the time. I quietly decline their offers. The old man has to have some dignity...

It's not about how many times you get killed, it's about your K/D ratio.

Not that running out in the open and jumping around like a lunatic on a game translates to real combat skills but Battlefield is a lot of fun.

If they gave each player only one life and told them they could never play again if they died or that their character would need 90-180 days to heal up from their injuries it would be played quite differently.

And now I am being given advice by a cat, hummpphhh.
I know what you mean by the K/D ratio though, except I cannot seem to kill anybody, I can't even damn well see them, then suddenly somebody who is probably about 9yo will come up behind me and cut my throat!chuckle

Give yourself a break OP, these kids know all the good hiding spots on BF3 etc.. besides, those controllers are NOTHING like holding a real gun. :-)

I preferred BF2142 :-)

I love physics, it's whats in my morning cup of coffee, it's what keeps the universe from flying apart due to a lack of belief, and it works really well for figuring gas mileage. :-)

RE: I now know why TPTB send young men to war!
from the vets i have met, life on the real battlefield is not even close to made up reality of click and shoot with some controller and screen

and then with the actual sounds of warfare, i doubt them kids that are good at video games would have dry pants after five minutes
