Agreed. Also, I never took a mortgage. I worked, saved, and paid cash for my home. Lived in my car for months while I worked the nightshift at a sawmill for minimum wage. Ate MRE's and showered at truckstops. I too watched the market collapse while I literally lost tens of thousands of dollars. Meanwhile the banks are giving illegal aliens mortgages, unemployed people, etc.

I'm glad some icelanders got some debt relief, I just wish that the ones whom are old and tired, and have slaved for years to "get theirs" would be given something too. THEY are the deserving group. f*ck, this isn't rocket science. This f*cking world is bassackwards.

I didn't read the details of what Iceland did, but they forgave some mortgage debt, not all of it.

Congress could do that here. And provide equanimical relief for people who didn't get lured into the housing bubble scam.

They could do lots of things that wouldn't damage the banking system or the population.

Without punishing those who acted responsibly.

I don't think bailing out the banks was the right thing to do in the first place. They borrowed the money to do that. From the BANKS.

They should have let them fail. Forced them to auction off their assets, they should force them to auction off the foreclosed homes, and let the housing price drop to a level people can afford.

People who paid off their mortgages might not like that if they intend to SELL, but that would get us a recovery, and if you held on, a little while, things would adjust back to where they were before the BUBBLE insanity.

As it is, it's hard to sell for a good price anyway. They should be promoting what's needed to put people in houses, fix the credit of the people who got wrongfully foreclosed, so they can buy one of these auction houses.

There's all kinds of thing we could do if the banks didn't own Washington DC.
