So according to the table at the link, the scenario in the op would be roughly 60% more densely populated than the most densely populated city in the world, Mumbai.
That seems right, and also crowded.

Ever read about the studies done with rats and overcrowding?

Lets just say, at the breaking point, rat tasted fine to rat.

I think BadRat should avoid reading about that study. chuckle

Personally I prefer open spaces and wilderness.
Maybe the future isn't so bright I gotta wear shades.

Yeah, I've seen those studies. Thing is though, we're not rats. I think we'd do a lot better with our ability to execute proper planning. That said, there would still be a segment of the population who could never adapt and they would have to be allowed to live in the country.
Or we would be integrated.
Into the taco salad.

Each person would have 418.176 square feet to live on, grow their food, get their water, and do all the stuff that people do to survive.

The answer is, of course, no.

Food wouldn't have to be grown on that land. It would have to be brought in from outside

Jhikpghf

It's possible, sewage out and water in will have to be dealt with, but I've been a few places where this is the general layout albeit more like a city of a million surrounded by natural landscapes and farms then smaller cities 30-180 minutes away. It would probably fair better with a few city centers connected by rail. Agricultural and natural spaces surrounding it, maybe a flower of life shape adjusted to the landscape

Ethiopians wouldn't need as much room so it would work out.

Would it be a good idea to start pushing people into dense mega citys in order to limit the damage to the outlying areas? Think about it, 300 million people in the US could be contained in three citys on a land area of 4,500 square miles, smaller than Connecticut. Sound like a good idea?

Anything is possible....also f*ck that. Leave me to fend for myself but you wont put me in some cease pool like New York. If I wanted to live in such a shit hole I would be there right now vs in the country.

It would be possible. Just not desirable and definitely not necessary.

I've stayed in one of these in Japan.. Oddly enough it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, although my feet stuck out, I (shockingly) was too tall....

Good fun, and only 4,000 Yen a night... Way cheaper than anything else around Ginza Tokyo.

also sure, when the economy implodes, there will be wal*mart mega cities that you'll live in, and for a 'job' you'll be working to 'reclaim the land' as they 'renaturalize' america.

I wish I were joking.

Its in the cards.

So, who gets to live in the rural areas ?

Nobody. it's called the 're-wilding' project by our friends at the UN, Agenda 21

Yup, if they have their way it's going to become a gigantic nature reserve dotted with palatial hunting lodges of the elite.
