What he meant is that in dire times (times where your future is in question) shiny things hold no value. In an apocalyptic setting (or economic collapse) the only items that will have value are those that are usable. So, since there would be no electronics manufacture in that period of time Gold would likely be worthless. It is a decent enough conductor of electricity but it's doubtful that in that scenario people would have access to a smelter and/or require a raw material versus finished product.

I got what he meant. The problem with that is although the metals are hand picked by humans to act as wealth there is the rest of the world that may not be in an "American apocalyptic" situation. Once the shit is done hitting the fan we will have to regroup and jump back in the game.

I say American apocalyptic because we sometimes get stuck on that if shit goes down here that it will be happening globally. Even if that is the case look at WWI and WWII. We made it out alive right? I for one do not believe that WWIII will happen because the human race will not completely commit suicide.

With respect, you are confusing medium of exchange with wealth storage.

People acquiring PMs in preparation of the next fiat regime (SDR, Bancor and the like) aren't reconverting them back to fiat (FRN or otherwise) until after the FRN is replaced as WRC.

Accordingly, PM acquisition is not meant to replace fiat currency as a convenient method of exchange, but as a store of accumulated labor.
