RE: Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven - repent and believe
Ol Tommy Jefferson was a very smart man. After all, he wrote our
Declaration of Independence!
“We believe that this law is going to collapse under its own weight… This to us is something that
we’re not going to give up on, because we’re not going to give up on destroying the health
care system for the American people.”

DrPostman Wrote:LysaStrata Wrote:The HUGE shortcoming of Deism is that it only includes the human perspective.
What about God?
Thomas Jefferson, a confirmed Deist, wrote his own version of the
Bible http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Bible
LysaStrata Wrote:If you believe He exists in some capacity, wouldn't you be curious about what it is that He wants/needs/expects?
He is like an absentee landlord. Might be a good idea to figure out what His expectations are---so you don't get evicted on His return.
I may not know what God's will for me is, but I sure as hell know
what God's will for me isn't! The great thing about Deism is
that my Deism doesn't have to be like any other Deists beliefs. I
have my own personal and very dynamic relationship with God. It's
what works for me.
the height of arrogance is to edit the Bible (Jefferson) thinking that YOU can somehow discern what is important
I say this b/c my perspective has changed sooo much since my childhood when I had a visceral fear reaction to the stories presented but now, I can understand the message within the context--being part of a greater story
why does Jefferson think that we should remove the "difficult parts" when (with maturity) they make sense?
I don't question that your Deism "works for you" but AGAIN--what about God?
Does it work for Him?
From what the Bible lays out of God's expectations, the answer would be no.
But then, without reading the Bible (lease for my above metaphor), you have no idea what His expectations are so you are at a real disadvantage for assessing whether or not you are meeting them.

Do you religious folks that constantly post religious stuff on here ever post on religious forums? Just curious because I know when I want to discuss or find info about a specific topic, I visit those types of forums.

What he says in that quote is true and is in total agreement with what I have been saying on this forum forever.
Read my antichrist thread.
I do not question his position--only his reaction to it.
He has apparently mistaken the nonsense from the church as equating with the Bible when that is not the case.
The liars and deceivers have twisted and distorted the word of God.
Reject the church but keep God--and we come to know God through scripture.

I am a member of a religious forum where I discuss doctrinal exegesis with some amazingly knowledgeable scholars .
That is a totally different experience than this site.

Thanks for the answer, Lysa. I was just really curious because I've found that the forums specific to a topic have a no-nonsense approach and there aren't disruptions from nay-sayers since everyone is there for the same purpose.

Why would you assume that I haven't read the Bible? I have, and I've
come to the conclusion that it was written by men attempting to control
people. Nice allegories, but what God wants for me isn't very complicated.
The Bible, AFAIC, is just another attempt of humans to confine God to a
box. It's fine if you want to believe that it's the inerrant word from God,
but your arguments are no different from those who claim that the Rig
Vedas are God's word, or from those of the Taoists or anyone else who
claims to have a book written by God.

I do not associate with those kinds of hypocrites.
I really feel sorry for those of you who have had no experience with true believers and feel the need to generalize based on some backwoods hillbillies like Westboro that have NO knowledge or understanding of the Gospel

Those forums are like calculus and this is like Sesame Street talking about the number "2"
They have a purpose for furthering spiritual development!
But this is fun (sometimes) and I can post obnoxious little pics like this one:
ETA: I like the end times stuff and political stuff which is why I come here. My group doesn't participate in politics.

A typical response. You have seen the words on the page but you have never gotten past Phase 1 into Phase 2 (which takes at least a year of daily study--and I know you didn't bother with it that long). The book isn't just "nice allegories" or moral instruction or loopy historical accounts. This is a how to book that describes a process. A metamorphosis. To help your mind be transformed in a way that will make you acceptable for further work in a political establishment that is yet to come.
I am a mathematical person and I can state without a doubt that this book was not written by men. The math encoded alone precludes this possibility. The complexities and depth (literary complexities) would make writing the Bible today an impossible feat even when the most powerful computers are employed.
I understand that the box that you have built for yourself doesn't have any openings for you to consider outside your conclusions. Which is a shame.
But we all live with our choices. And there is no punishment for making the choice you have made. But you will not be invited to participate in the political establishment yet to come.

But, the bible was written by man.
Men who plagiarized religions.
But it's your choice to continue to believe the lies you are fed.

My goodness you are just full of assumptions about people you don't
know at all. Must be nice to be so assured of being in the "spiritual
elite".
