Congrats on the new gun, you sure picked a good one!

Something to keep in mind..

Many people in our society view guns as an evil thing, and in a quiet and sneaky way, will try to sway public opinion into thinking that firearms are the root of most of the evil in society. The post you made was great, but when you post that you own this gun, and list all the others, that is not such a good thing because there are people on the boards that monitor who and what they own. At some time in our future, some really disturbed and psychotic people may come and try to take them from you because they fear you're ability to protect yourself, and they do not want you to have the ability to live your life as a free man. In other words, those firearms can be used to ensure that you answer to no person other than God and the laws of the Constitution. They want you in a position to where you have no choice but to do what they say. Without your guns, you will have to play by their rules.

With that said, be careful about what you post, some things you should keep to yourself

When you mention that you are too young still to own a handgun, my first thought was that you were some kind of troublemaker trying to shine a dark light on young people owning firearms, you know, the kind of trickery some in our society try to do on public forums in order to generate negative opinions about firearm ownership by anyone...just an observation!

So now I have a 12 gauge Remington 870 LEO, ruger 10/22, and now the R700 in .308.
My collection is complete until I turn 21 in 2014. Then I get the ruger sp101 in .357.

Why do you need to wait 10 days for a bolt-action rifle? Is it too late for you to change it to .300 Win Mag, or better yet .300 Win Ultra Mag?

How is your budget for optics

look into McMillan synthetic stocks, they have some seriously nice ones. I think it's "Brown's Precision" that has the aluminum bedding block for extreme weather resistant accuracy no matter what pretty much in their stocks...might be better than McMillan in my book.

Well, thing is, they are "cool" in the accepted sense. True apogee marvels in mechanical precision and chemical engineering. Mind boggling, if you consider it. Throwing tiny bits of lead (copper, brass, whatever), sometimes hundreds of meters, and having it impact exactly, within the breadth of your thumb, where you wanted it to go... Brilliant men have spent their lives working on nothing else. John Browning. Mikhail Kalashnikov. Remington Steele ;-).

Much like the Samurai said about their katanas, "Our swords are not weapons. They are simply tools to punish evil".

I think perhaps you decry the lack of discipline often displayed by those wielding them; truly disproportionate to their terminal effectiveness.

And that, I agree, is unfortunate.

Don't you listen to that. Can't go wrong with a .308 bolt. I woulda went Browning, not Remmy, but that's me ;-). Got your reloading gear for it? Consider the Lee Collet dies if you do.

Here's a technique some of my friends have used, if you're willing to burn a few karma points. Apparently Leupold will repair any scope for life, did a while ago, anyway. Find some "not so gently used" Leupold going cheap at a gun show, and send it back in for free repair.

Did you go synthetic or did you go wood? If you went wood, yeah, do look into synthetics later; wood is pretty, but wood warps. On a shotgun, not so critical. But for a tack driver bolt, problems in bad weather, not to mention simple POI shift. The upside of the 700s is that there's more aftermarket stuff for them than anything... maybe except for a 70.
