Dick Cheney wanted us to invade Iran in Bush's second term, and it was Bush himself who put the brakes on it.

Do you think Russia and China would merely sit on the sidelines while we gain more control over the Middle East and its oil?

It would spark an Iranian/Chinese/Russian alliance and quite possibly the start of WW3, and the entire world would lose as a result.
