CHARLESTON, SC September 30, 2011

A loud boom shook the coastal Lowcountry Wednesday morning, felt from Mount Pleasant to West Ashley. And once again, no one could say what caused it. Seismographs at the College of Charleston didn’t pick up any earthquake activity. The Charleston Air Force Base didn’t report any military aircraft creating sonic booms. No commercial vessels responded to a U.S. Coast Guard message asking for reports if it had been felt offshore. The reverberation most likely came from the “Seneca Guns,” a so-far-unexplained phenomenon felt along coasts around the world. Some experts speculate that the booms are caused by gases released from the sea floor, or undersea landslides along the Continental Shelf, or the echoed sound of distant thunder, or lightning-like electrical discharges, or even meteors crashing into the atmosphere at angles. The latest blast hit just before 10 a.m. “It was a pretty good shake, a pretty loud boom,” said Mark Reamer, who felt it in the Financial Management. “The mirrors on the wall rattled,” said Melinda Issacson, who was working out at home on James Island. Doors, windows and houses shook in Mount Pleasant and on Sullivan’s Island, according to Twitter reports. A West Ashley tweeter said it sounded like a gust of wind against the house. About the same time, a large tree fell across Hut Road on Johns Island and a nearby resident reported an explosion. But a tweeter in North Charleston said nothing was felt there. Small quakes and other booms are regular occurrences in the Lowcountry, where a series of faults converge underground. The last big shake was a temblor from the 5.8 Richter scale quake in Virginia in August. In March, a succession of three loud booms shook the coast that were widely believed to be the Seneca Guns.

Louisville Tennessee 09/28/2011

A series of loud, mysterious booms heard and felt by residents in the Lashbrooke neighborhood in Louisville over the last week remains a mystery.

It’s not coming from a nearby quarry, according to a representative from the Vulcan Materials Company. Carl VanHoozier, manager of process improvement, community relations and governmental affairs and land and geology for Vulcan, said that while the company has two other quarries located off U.S. Highway 321 in the Friendsville area, the only quarry currently in operation is located on Duncan Road in Maryville.

October 1, 2011 – TENNESSEE – The Lashbrooke subdivision in Louisville enjoyed a quiet and sun-bathed afternoon on Thursday. The peaceful surroundings of the affluent neighborhood along the Tennessee River lend no hint that its residents suffer from shell-shock. “It’s scary-loud. It’s loud enough that it makes your heart stop for a second,” said Andy Wombold. ”It sounds like a shotgun or an explosion of some kind.” Wombold and dozens of other residents in the neighborhood are unable to say exactly what “it” is. All they know is the mysterious booms have provided several rude awakenings that sent residents scrambling in fear. “Last Monday, about a week and a half ago, it was around 3 a.m. and it was, ‘Pow!’ All the sudden we heard a loud explosion. It sounded like it came from inside our house. It shook the walls. It shook the floor. It shook the ceiling,” said Wombold. “We thought maybe a gas line had exploded and maybe our house was going to blow up. We thought it was really serious,” said Wombold. “It was like lightning struck directly beside the house,” said neighbor Dwayne Jones. ”I jumped out of bed and ran outside. Then I saw a clear sky full of stars and knew it wasn’t lightning. The ground was still shaking for a little bit. It was like a big sonic boom. Just the whole house shakes. I never heard anything like it.” Several residents called emergency dispatchers and Blount County deputies responded to the scene. However, they were unable to find any problems in the neighborhood. Marian O’Briant with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office said deputies also checked with local rock quarries and confirmed there were no blasting operations. Residents said the booms continued for several days. “It would happen in the middle of the night, in the morning, at all different times,” said Jones. ”It was like they would get a little weaker as the days went by, but it was still really jarring. You generally heard one big boom and then a bunch of aftershocks in quick succession. I don’t know if it was an echo off the river or what,” said Wombold. A Tennessee National Guard spokesman confirmed there were no military operations in the area that would create the ground-shaking experience. T-DOT told 10News there are no construction projects in the area that could explain the noise. The USGS said there has only been one earthquake in Tennessee in the last couple of weeks. That tremor only registered 1.4 on the Richter magnitude scale and was in Tiptonville along the Mississippi River. “The other thing we figured is it might have been something with the power lines,” said Jones. “We have these very large lines that go directly through the neighborhood and across the river, but we never had any power outages.” TVA confirmed there have been no problems with the lines near the Lashbrooke subdivision. The mystery may be more difficult to solve as the frequency of the booms decreases. Wombold said it has been a couple of days since he last heard a boom while Jones indicated he has not noticed the noise since late last week. Blount County dispatchers said the last call they received about the booms was last week.

I'm leaning towards high altitude meteor detonation impacts.
Small meteors exploding could and usually do release megatons of energy.

Bump ~ To keep an eye on it... these sounds are coming from SOMETHING. Too many of them all around the world to be just mass auditory hallucinations (Okay, there junior G men, those 'air balloon' excuses may have worked in the 50's, but we're in a new century here... WE'LL find out the truth, one way or another... hopefully, one way, rather than the other LOL!!

I once heard one these "Booms" I was in Cornwall, by the coast and miles away from anyone when I heard it, I've always presumed it was a sonic boom from some high altitude aircraft.... Though it sounded like a nuke going off at the time .....

Shit Guys. There are so many stories about so many of these sonic booms from all over the world happening, I am going to have to spreadsheet them all on Excel to get to get the timelines and links in order. This is going to take awhile. I don't beleive anyone has done this yet, (pull all the info together on one page) If there is a list floating around, let me know.

They must be flying the Blackbirds replacement and we know there is one because they decommisioned the Blackbird and that wouldn't happen unless it was replaced. Aurura?

I don't like big booms.

All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
