Why go through all the trouble to build a rocket stove when you can buy one for $12.00. I just put a small grate on the top. Just look at that heat!

One other nice thing about this is, you can easily take it with you when you need to bug out.

The rocket stove was designed for efficiency, for poor people living places where firewood was limited; they could cook a meal with a few sticks. You could take your charcoal lighter with you yes, but you will need charcoal as well.

A charcoal chimney will work with sticks and chunks of wood just as well. It might burn a little hotter and faster. You might be able to burn sticks through the bottom holes. I'll have to check on that one. If not, it looks like you could tweak it a bit to make it work.

Here's a few I didnt see in the thread

Also about using a charcoal lighter can, that would help in a pinch but it's missing the elements that are necessary for a rocket stove, similar to masonry stoves the point is to create a 90 degree angle that the smoke hits so it reburns itself before entering the rest of the chimney(which can be stretched out or configured in a maze or spiral shape, whatever you want, to absorb and maintain a radiant heat) in this case with the original brick stove it's to burn hot with little fuel and exhaust.

Similarly, you can dig a pit into the ground and add a second hole shaft for your fire. Here's a quick result I found under
"Dakota Fire Pit"-

Happy camping! chuckle
