If the parties CAN do whatever they want, which I think is true essentially, then it's another reason to not have any, or impose rules on them.
Most states do impose rules, but the courts still don't seem to want to get involved in what they want to view as private clubs.

And it turns out that's basically what they are. How dare we naively think the parties have any relevance for those not in power!!??

I'm not in the never vote again camp.

After my brief involvement in RPLAC and watching what went down in this regard, and see some good people get dragged through the dirt, I can't say what camp I'm in. But I'm reasonably certain that the bigger the stakes, the more likely such collusion and fraud is perpetrated. The powerful don't give up power without a fight.

I was a delegate in 2000, and witnessed the party hackery doing their dirty work in Seattle. They changed the voting rules to make it a mathematical impossibility for proportional representation, as prescribed by state law. They made it a Bush landslide when it obviously wasn't.

It was a ridiculous voting process(for state delegates).

And the Ron Paul people experienced this last time, made a herculean effort to battle it.

I think if they redouble their efforts they can clean out a bunch of unprincipled traitors.

It may take too long to accomplish (and the Paulite platform isn't ideal anyway but at least it's republican.)

The democrats need to do the same thing.
...

I agree. IMHO, the best way would be cutting the influence of powerful lobbies (corporate & AIPAC) on the political establishment - for the starter curbing down as much as possible their funding of election campaigns and PACs.

Opportunistic leeches would drop off on their own.

Good to "meet" you as well, but we've had other exchanges here in the past. First one was a bit rough (over the possibility of spyware being embedded in firmware). Hope you'll forgive my stupidity back then.

Someday I may register but for now it's best for my situation that I don't.

Take care...

No gripes here, I'm a real dickhead sometimes.

And no I'm not running for anything, but I'm thinking about checking out the local democratic party and causing some discomfort.

I guess my thesis here is the system needs to be weeded from the roots up. I'm not naive to think it will be, but I think I can be persuasive enough to help do that on my local level. Wake people up at the bottom of these parties, get them interested in accountability.

They aren't right now. They're sheepling out for the most part. The Paultard movement should be an example to everyone even though it hasn't yet succeeded.

If democrats would be democrats and republicans republicans, it would be far short of perfect but a huge improvement.

Pelosi and Obama aren't democrats.

W and Romney aren't republicans. They're all traitors, and need to be ejected and rejected like Lieberman.

It could happen if democrats and republicans started demanding it.

Locally and on up.
