Man's 16-Year Old Dog Gets Out of His Yard, Cop Shoots it and Dumps it in Dumpster
The POS officer claimed that the dog was hit by a car and he was just doing the "humane" thing in shooting it -- however, the owner took the dog's body to a vet and he said there was no sign of it having been hit by a car.

Coffee Co. dog owner upset after animal control officer shoots pet

Reported by Carley Gordon - email
MANCHESTER, TN (WSMV) -
An animal control policy is at the center of controversy after a pet owner found his animal had been shot. Now, the pet owner and the animal control worker who pulled the trigger admit something needs to change.
The animal control officer said he shot the dog in the head, then put it in a garbage bin behind their office, along with several other dead dogs.
He said that has been the county's policy for the past several years, but now a special meeting has been called to address the practice.
Bryan Pennington doesn't have a wife or any kids. To him, his dogs are his family.
Out of the five he owned, hands down, this man's best friend was his 16-year-old dog, Toby.
"I had Toby longer than I've had any dog I've ever owned," he said.
Toby escaped Pennington's yard Tuesday. When the owner came home, he learned an animal control officer had sedated Toby, shot him in the head and then put him in the garbage bin behind Coffee County's animal control building.
"It's really, really troubling to me, because I love my dog. He's like my child," Pennington said.
Not long after, a reporter with the Manchester Times discovered Toby wasn't alone. The garbage bin was full of dead dogs.
" It's a hard thing when you go to pick your dog up, and when you ask where he is, he's in a dumpster full of decaying animals," Pennington said.
Officer Charlie Brown said he followed policy.

Owner pusses out and won't file charges against the pig (who violated policy in killing his dog).

Owner of dog allegedly killed by animal control won’t press charges

The owner of the dog allegedly shot and killed by a Coffee County animal control officer said that he does not want to press charges in the case, which has angered animal activists from across the country and drawn the attention of PETA.
According to Coffee County Sheriff Department investigator Sgt. Danny Ferrell, Bryan Pennington does not want to press charges, but wants the policy for euthanizing animals changed.
According to Pennington, an animal control worker shot his dog in the head without following proper procedure. Pennington said his 16-year-old black Labrador retriever “Toby” was picked up by animal control officer Charlie Brown Monday afternoon.
Pennington said that the dog had arthritis in his legs that he took medicine for and was blind in one eye.
“He loved people and was healthy – he had a healthy appetite,” said Pennington.
According to Pennington, the dog was at his neighbor’s house when they called animal control. He said the neighbors didn’t know who the dog was and believed there was “something wrong with him.”
Once animal control picked up the dog, according to Pennington, worker Charlie Brown took it to the impound and “shot it in the head.”

According to county mayor David Pennington, the father of Bryan Pennington, policy states that dogs are not to be euthanized by gunshot and should be kept in the shelter for a 3-5 day waiting period before being euthanized.

This is the way it's suppose to be in most areas, but it seems that people have gotten trigger happy...instead of following procedure, they shoot the dogs.
Please people, keep your dogs contained well so this doesn't happen to one of your pets. I'd hate to hear about someone here at LOP having to go through the heartbreak of something like this happening to them.
This needless shooting of dogs needs to stop though.
Oh and screw PETA...they're corrupt and kill more animals each yr. then all the police and animal control officers combined.
I'd be fighting this...the officer needs to pay for not following procedure.

I doubt that heartless Officer Charlie Brown has any problem sleeping at night -- somebody needs to find out where he lives and fix that somehow one night -- the only way to deal with these thugs.

That's a goddamn fact. I've watched cops at my city and country level. I have never seen a bigger group for f*cking trash in my life.

There are some evils that walk the earth that can only be removed in this fashion.
I support doing so 100%--our legal system and laws have failed us.
