Maryland mass shooting suspect arrested
Maryland mass shooting suspect arrested

Authorities in Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties have foiled what they believe would have been a mass shooting by a man who was about to be fired from his job, police sources tell ABC 7 News.

Law enforcement sources tell ABC 7's Brad Bell that the suspect, who has yet to be identified, was arrested in Crofton on Thursday night. According to officials, the man was facing termination from his job at Pitney Bowes, a postage meter company, in Prince George's County.

Authorities say they found an "arsenal" of weapons in his home at the time of his arrest and that he had made threats directed toward his employer.

Not really. The guy called work and told them he was going to do it (according to what i just heard on the radio). What classifies as an "arsenal,"
2 or more guns?

Some would question, why would the government stage a "mass shooting" event?

Perhaps the real reason is this, so people can be Pre-arrested, and anyone who even acts / looks suspicious, e.g. having an arsenal, can be arrested.

RE: Maryland mass shooting suspect arrested
Seems appropriate to me, if the guy was CURRENTLY making threats it seems like a good time for a slight investigation. Or maybe the news day is slow and some people (the 3 that replied) want to be amused in from of their TV and see another slaughter? Before others on here bad-mouth ME or the cops for doing their jobs by following up on an un-stable man's threats, just imagine it is you or your family's homes this guy decided to start with on what could be another VERY successful murder spree.

Good post here is the latest news............

Maryland authorities have thwarted an alleged mass shooting plot and seized an "arsenal of weapons," Fox News has learned.

WJLA-TV reports that police foiled what they believe would have been a mass shooting by an Anne Arundel County man. The station, citing police sources, said the suspect was about to get fired from his job. He was arrested in Crofton, Md., Thursday night.

A source close to the investigation confirmed the report to Fox News, saying the "subject is emotionally disturbed." The man called up his workplace and threatened to shoot people, the source said.

When police took the man into custody, they found an "arsenal" of weapons inside his home.

The Prince George's County Police Department is planning a news conference on the investigation at 1 p.m. today.

Thanks for being logical. I have no idea what qualifies for an arsenal these days.

But maybe he was keeping his "arsenal of weapons" to defend the government since they attacked us on 911.

RE: Maryland mass shooting suspect arrested
It was/IS a good post, I hope my sticking up for the MD police didn't put a damper (or dampner, boing-boing-boing) on this recent breaking news conversation. It could have been worse than Aurora, or Va Tech, or Columbine...you get the idea. I'm glad it never got past the threatening stages, but it does make me wonder. Seeing as how firearms are available to anyone enterprising enough with cash, when this guy gets out of jail-prison, or a mental hospital, what will stop him from doing it then? I'm so PRO-Gun by the way, that wasn't where I was leaning.

Well, threats like that with intent usually wind up being a felony, which would show up on a background check, although private purchases usually don't require them. The mental issue I'm not so sure about. It didn't flag Cho when he bought his guns (from an FFL not at a gun show). As for the police doing what they are supposed to do, I'm glad they acted with speed.

Authorities discuss suspect accused of planning a mass shooting in Maryland
Police from several jurisdictions conducted a search warrant and recovered numerous guns at a home in Crofton, Md., Thursday night after alleged threats referencing the "Joker" were made earlier in the week.

Sources told News4 that Neil Edwin Prescott made a phone call Monday to a co-worker and made a threat toward his employer, a subcontractor for Pitney Bowes, which was ready to fire him. Sources said he was upset about the prospect of losing his job and that he stated, "I'm gonna load my guns and blow everybody up," according to a search warrant.

Sources said that a safety alert was issued Monday to police after the phone call. Prescott was fired from his job in Prince George's County on an unrelated matter.

Sources tell News4's Pat Collins that Prescott made threats -- saying something to the effect of, "You don' t know who the real Joker is; I am the real Joker." When Pitney Bowes heard this alleged threat, they called authorities.

Authorities checked a police database and found that Prescott had 13 guns registered to his name. They became concerned, obtained a warrant and searched his home Thursday night. Anne Arundel County Police, Prince George's County Police and the ATF were involved in the search.

Federal officials say several firearms were removed from the home, including three 9mm handguns, a .357 revolver and several other rifles and shotguns.

Prescott was groggy when police made contact, and was wearing a shirt that read, "Guns don't kill people, I do."
