best to be outside, or near to where you can see the sun (not directly look at it)

as around 6:15 or so, pacific time (west coast of canada/america)

for those who desire to see

one source

http://blogs.canada.com/2012/05/16/watch...s-weekend/

Quote:A word of warning: though 95 per cent sun blockage seems like a lot, the remaining 5 per cent is surprisingly bright. You will need to take safety precautions when viewing the sun throughout all phases of the eclipse. That said, don’t let the dire warnings that are sure to be repeated scare you from watching the eclipse—it can be easily enjoyed with little equipment.

If you've got a couple old 3 1/2 floppies you can take them apart and use the disks inside as a filter. One will probably work, but two seems better if it's bright out. Just mount them in a piece of light proof cardboard to shield the edges. Of course don't look directly at the sun.

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

Should be interesting to see how the San Andreas fault reacts to the differentials in the Lunar geosynchronous orbit given both Celestial alignments with the Moon and Sun at that time.
