This boar is able to live in the north and is much bigger and much more destructive. MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE DESTRUCTIVE. It will ruin the forests and is impossible to irradicate. They don't want this thing getting out into the wild.

Michigan makes millions off of its hunting. The boar will ruin it all.

Has anyone considered that maybe raising european foraging pigs outside of their natural habitat might not be such a great idea? Maybe there are known problems with that, after all bringing old-school grain pigs across the ocean from europe was part of the Columbus expedition. They left them behind to run wild so when the ships came back there might be a population for them to hunt/capture. They didn't think there would be a problem with it either. Now the entire western hemisphere has Javelinas thank you very much.

When I learned of the existence of the MPPA, the Michigan Pork Producers Association, I decided to do a new search on them.....this popped up immediately:

Effective April 1, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has banned feral swine and wild hogs in the state in an effort to prevent and fight invasive species that endanger the state’s agricultural industry and thousands of citizens and businesses that depend on it for their livelihoods.

A group known as the Agricultural Leaders of Michigan, which includes the Michigan Pork Producers Association, issued this statement: “Given the serious threat wild hogs and feral swine pose to Michigan’s livestock farmers, crop growers and rural landowners and family businesses, Michigan must ban these destructive, disease-carrying animals and close the door to all invasive species.

“Just as we do not want zebra mussels, Asian carp and other invasive species to threaten our economy, we should also not allow wild hogs and feral swine to proliferate and endanger thousands of jobs and Michigan’s entire agriculture sector – a consistent growth area employing hundreds of thousands of people.”

Again I ask, why aren't they going after the hunting preserves, which are the PRIMARY source for these feral hogs? Very few farmers raise them for meat but feral hogs are ABUNDANT at the hunting preserves.
