What does the side moss grows on a tree have to do with a survival situation?

Some falsely believe you can use it as a compass to get your bearings. Moss grows on the shady/moist side of the tree.

Peace

I see.

So the most shady and moist side of a tree is the north in the northern hemiphere? And that means mossy side is north?

Yes

No, as my pictures clearly show, it can grow on all sides. It's a fallacy to think it only grows on the north side and therefor makes a terrible tool to use to determine which way is north.

I said north. Anon But really, in a shtf scenario, will we really need to know directions? What about a sundial? Or something? Or if we have to venture off from camp (or wherever) why not just leave a trail?

I don't know, so I'm just asking in earnest.

It may be more apt to grow on the north side, but I wouldn't rely on it. If you travel by map it's good to know direction.

And yeah there are much more reliable ways of telling direction than moss growth such as plotting a shadow cast by a stick in the ground.

I guess a stick in the ground is as good as anything. Jhikpghf IF tshtf, I don't think I'd be traveling too far. Unless this area was unundated with water or something.

RE: Moss only grows on the _____ side of a tree?
It used to grow on the North side. It changed in the last 100 years, as our planet's electromagnetic field and gravity changed. Today, the planet's electromagnetics are jacked from cell phones, wifi and a lack of trees. Moss grows on all sides - reflecting out discord with nature.

mossy?
Just a guess, but i've heard something like this before. Apparently it's true for the coastal area around where I live.

North side, the side that gets least sun, stays dampest the longest.

South-facing best for houses.
North-facing best for moss.

When I lived up North and in the Midwest, this was generally true. I'm not so sure about here in Georgia - moss tends to grow on everything and on all sides. :)
