My experiences using a electric bicycle as transportation for the past year.
About 12 months ago I decided to build a electric bicycle. The kits can be purchased on ebay and the technology is at a point to where it is reliable and fairly cost efficient.

Since I weigh 275 lbs , I made sure to go with a kit that had enough power for my needs also considering I live in a hilly location.

The full kit, with lifepo4 battery cost $ 750 delivered to my door by sea mail { shipped from China} . I then bought a nice used Giant brand bicycle off craigslist for $ 200.

I have now logged on over 1000 miles, and I gotta say this was a great investment. On level ground, it pulls me at a top speed of 35 mph. For the average man who weighs around 180 lbs, they would be able to go faster, but on a 2 wheeled bicycle, theres really no need for that.

It cost about 7 cents to fully charge the battery, and I can go about 25 miles distance on 1 charge, WITHOUT pedalling at all. If you are willing to " pedal assist" then you can go twice that distance.

Oh, and I also went with solid airless tires , so theres no worry of getting a blowout when im doing 30 mph.

My average trip is about 18 miles in distance going to the post office, supermarket to get a few things , visiting friends ,etc.

The battery will supposedly handle a minimum of 1000 charge cycles without a noticeable loss of performance/capacity.

I have been able to use it for about 80% of my transportation needs. If the electric grid ever shuts down, I can easily charge it with solar panels.

I have a bike too. Old fashioned pedal power. Jhikpghf

Had a yamaha scooter but sold it. It was making me lazy.

If you have a body weight under 200 lbs..you can actually purchase a inexpensive electric kit, that easily and quickly mounts on the front wheel.

keep in mind, you can still use 100% pedal power if you want..or use all electric..or use both electric and pedal power together.

Its kinda cool to know, that if fuel or electricity gets shutdown for a while, I can still get around town on this item.

I had one of those skateboard looking things that has a handle w/ controls and you stand on it. It was gas powered.

It was GREAT! Got 200 miles to the gallon.

staying with the low cc ones you don't need a license or insurance or nada

i rode so much i plum wore it out.

gonna get me an elec. one next.
