Mysterious white foam washes up on west Oahu shoreline
KALAELOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A local environmentalist is raising questions about white foam that washed up along the shoreline in Kalaeloa.

Carroll Cox of Envirowatch discovered chunks of styrofoam while hiking Friday afternoon.

It's unknown how or when the foam first got there.

Cox believes it is part of a floating pier that drifted from Ke'ehi Lagoon, and that it could pose a danger to marine life.

"Imagine this being in the environment, fish consume it, turtles can ingest it accidentally while feeding on limu, monk seals could possibly ingest it", said Cox.

Cox suspects more pieces could have also drifted to other parts of the island.

He plans to alert the Department of Land and Natural Resources on Monday to have the foam removed.
