NATO men romp in Afghan brothels

NATO men are romping nightly with prostitutes in Kabul – while Our Boys die on the front line.

The Sun filmed civilian workers visiting illicit brothels in the Afghan capital for sex with Chinese hookers.

They glugged down contraband beer as they leered at £70-a-night girls before leading them off to gloomy bedrooms.

Nato chiefs say one in five civilian staff use brothels and warn it must stop for fear of outraging Muslim Afghans and derailing the security mission.

At one named Paradise armed doormen inspected our investigators before they were shown to a dingy bar where contractors openly groped girls.

A hooker called Boo Boo said she hardly slept because she was constantly booked. Another called Sin Sin said: "Kabul is dirty and dangerous but I like money."

There has been a rise in sexual diseases and NATO chiefs fear staff could be blackmailed.

Afghan MP Shukria Barakzai warned: "They will undermine their reason for being here."

Canadian Forces bought 1.5 million condoms for soldiers

Since 2006, the Canadian Forces has purchased about 1.5 million condoms for Canadian soldiers at a cost to taxpayers of $177,868.

According to an article in La Presse, the taxpayer funded initiative has been in place since World War I as a means to combat sexually transmitted diseases within Canadian military ranks.

Despite strict rules against romantic liaisons during military deployments, soldiers can readily acquire condoms on military base clinics and pharmacies.

Ostensibly, the condoms are meant for soldiers going on leave but the reality is another story.

"The rules are clear: no hugging or hand-holding, and certainly no sex between men and women (or same-sex partners, the regulations stipulate.) Even married soldiers serving on the base are not allowed to fraternize, or show public affection," notes Erin Anderssen in a 2010 Globe and Mail article.

"Military officials, to a certain extent, appear to accept that hanky-panky happens. Reporters driving around the base at night with military police have described catching couples, who wrongly thought that darkness was sufficient cover for a passionate interlude."

RE: NATO's "Comfort Girls" - Prostitution In The Name of Peace
Nato has a very colored history when it comes to prostitution:

http://www.uri.edu/artsci/wms/hughes/bosnia.htm

"Italian NATO peacekeeping soldiers in Sarajevo were accused by Spanish secret services of organizing a child prostitution network that exploited girls between the ages of 12 and 14. The report said the girls were brought, in 1996, to the NATO force's headquarters in the Sarajevo suburb of Ilidza. Since then, the girls had been taken to areas including the Croatian coast where NATO soldiers go to relax. Spanish defence ministry denied the charges. (Military intelligence services, Agence France Presse, 23 May 1998)"

UN, SFOR involved in Bosnian prostitution

Reuters, 18 May 2000

SARAJEVO (Reuters) - U.N. police in Bosnia and one member of a NATO-led force have been involved in prostitution and a trade in women that the Balkan country should do more to prevent, a U.N. report said Thursday.

The report accused the authorities of going after the victims of trafficking rather than the true culprits. It said the women are often denied basic legal rights when detained.

``Bosnia-Herzegovina has emerged as a significant destination point for women trafficked from Eastern Europe,'' said the report released by the U.N. mission in Bosnia and the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The two agencies said they had dealt with 40 cases of suspected trafficking of people in the year to March, involving 182 women.

Most were in their 20s but five were under 18.

``The women in these cases were almost all foreign nationals, hailing from five countries -- Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Romania and the Ukraine,'' it said.

``In approximately 14 cases ... there was evidence of complicity by police, mostly local police but also some international police, as well as foreign military (SFOR troops),'' the report said.

``All these groups were implicated as clients, though only local police and one SFOR member were apparently involved in buying and selling the women,'' the report said.

Bosnian Brothels Flourish
6 Sep 05

"When I save enough money, I shall open a shop at home, " said Elena, a Ukrainian prostitute working in Bosnia. " I no longer have hopes of getting married but I want to be a good mother to my child."

Elena says she earns 30 German marks for sexual intercourse. She supplements her earnings by cleaning the brothel in which she works.

The sex trade is flourishing in Bosnia. Groups of women are daily smuggled across Bosnia's poorly secured borders, many of them ending up in the republic's brothels.

Most come from poor eastern European countries like the Ukraine, Moldova, Lithuania, Romania and Bulgaria. Many are bought and sold by criminal gangs, paid a pittance - or nothing at all - and live in appalling conditions.

"I am shocked at how many foreign women are being sold here as if they were mere slaves - I have encountered this all over Bosnia, " said the UN Special Envoy to Bosnia Elizabeth Rehn. She made her remarks two years ago, and since then the problem has deteriorated.

Only last month, the UN said Bosnian Serb police rescued 33 women forced into prostitution, in a raid on nightclubs in the town of Prijedor. Some of them were only 14-years-old.

NATO Summit, the Georgian Committee and the 80 prostitutes

23.11.2010

Allegations arise in Portugal that last Friday the committee of Georgia celebrated its stay at the NATO Summit in Lisbon by holding a raucous party with eighty prostitutes in its luxury hotel. Is this how NATO spends its money?

The allegations appear in one of Portugal's main daily newspapers, Correio da Manhã, which claims that the Georgian Committee contracted eighty prostitutes for a raucous party, which went wrong when there was an "incident" with one of the girls, who was identified by the authorities responsible for the security of the event.

The allegations also claim that the party was so noisy that French President Nicholas Sarkozy, staying at the same hotel, complained to the management which was forced to ask the Georgians to make less noise and the party ended earlier than expected.

Prostitutes charge NATO troops more than locals

VILNIUS, Lithuania (AP) — Prostitutes are charging NATO troops dispatched to this Baltic state more than three times as much money as Lithuanian clients, police said Thursday.
In recent days, prostitutes have been arriving in the city of Siauliai, where 100 NATO soldiers are stationed, part of a team to service four Belgian F-16s that patrol the skies above Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, Police Commissioner General Vytautas Grigaravicius told reporters.

He said that the sex workers were hiking their rates for the Western troops, who come from Belgium and Norway.

"Prostitutes take $35 an hour from Lithuanian citizens, while NATO troops are asked to pay $125 an hour," he said, calling it a clear case of discrimination. Prostitution is illegal in the country of 3.5 million residents.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_traff..._in_Kosovo

Human trafficking in Kosovo has seen "a steep rise" since NATO troops and UN administrators took over Kosovo. According to Amnesty International, NATO servicemen and UN staff "generate 80% of the income" for pimps and human traffickers. UN Department of peacekeeping claimed that "peacekeepers have come to be seen as part of the problem in trafficking rather than the solution". Amnesty found no evidence of criminal proceedings against NATO military personnel in their home countries.[3]

I can imagine that more than a few Chinese hookers are collecting more than cash from the Nato officers they service.

A lot of spies operate as prostitutes.

RE: NATO's "Comfort Girls" - Prostitution In The Name of Peace
What NATO says in the hallowed halls of Brussels: (2004 - before the Sarajevo child hooker scandal)

http://www.nato.int/docu/speech/2004/s040708a.htm

I think most of us are familiar with the phenomenon of trafficking. These are mainly very young women, teenage girls, girls in their early twenties, young women who are... who go to Bosnia or Kosovo or other places thinking that they're going to work in a restaurant or be a dancer and they arrive there, and their passports are taken away from them, they are sexually abused, they're intimidated, they are forced into sexual slavery.

Now that's the reports, the definition given to us by the United Nations, by the non-governmental organizations involved in looking into this and by our own governments, including my own government. And obviously this is reprehensible treatment of these young women. It's morally objectionable and it's against... it's contrary to international law, and as Ambassador Eide has said, to decency, and any standard of human rights.
What happens in places where lots of soldiers and civilian workers and NGOs and journalists and other people congregate is that houses of prostitution, of course, exist and most of the young men in question probably have no idea about the phenomenon of trafficking itself; that these are trafficked women. The difference between a willing prostitute on the one hand, and a trafficked women...it's our job, it's our responsibility to educate our young soldiers so that they understand the difference and they understand that there's a zero tolerance policy.

Meaning, one shall not procure sexual services and therefore one can stay away from even unwittingly, of course, contributing to this problem.

Kabul Brothels Continue to Service NATO

U.S. Embassy blames Afghan Government!
Monday 20 June 2011, by Matthew Nasuti

The unofficial message from the West to victims of oppression is:

“We will liberate you as long as your women agree to service our officials and contractors.”

That is a sad reality of both NATO and United Nations peacekeeping missions.

The U.S. State Department’s “Trafficking in Persons Report 2010” highlights the continuing growth of brothels in Kabul following the U.S. invasion in 2001. Many of the victims are poor Afghan women. A press release issued on January 13, 2011, by the U.S. Embassy in Kabul blamed the scandal on lax enforcement against traffickers by the Afghan Government, with no recommendation that the “johns” or clients be prosecuted (because many of them appear to be NATO and U.N. officials and their contractors). The most that the U.S. Embassy would meekly say is that:

“Some international security contractors may be involved in the sex trafficking of these women.” (it is interesting how ineffective U.S. intelligence agencies seem to be at determining brothel ownership in Kabul, despite the importance of the issue due to the use of these facilities by NATO officials)

The trade in Child prostitutes is continuing in Kosovo:

Girls as young as 11 are being sold into prostitution in the former war zone for as little as pounds 34 each.

Human rights campaigners say NATO NATO: see North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NATO
in full North Atlantic Treaty Organization

International military alliance created to defend western Europe against a possible Soviet invasion. troops' demand for sex has sent the vice trade spiralling out of control in the former Yugoslav province.

And they claim that some soldiers have even been involved in trafficking women and girls.

The victims are beaten, raped and forced into sex with huge numbers of men. One woman claims to have had 2700 clients in less than a year.

NATO troops are immune from prosecution in Kosovo.

'The international community in Kosovo have triggered an explosion in demand for trafficked women.

'They are not only failing to stop this despicable trade, they are actively fuelling it by paying for sex themselves.'

When the Kosovo war ended in 1999 and NATO ground troops went in, Amnesty knew of 18 bars in the province where sex wason sale.

By last year, the number of such brothels had soared to 200. Amnesty say most are run by gangsters.

British troops, including Scots regiments, have played a major role in Kosovo. Around 10,000 UK soldiers served there in 1999 and 1000 are on duty today.

Amnesty say every soldier who pays for sex in Kosovo boosts the brutal trade in vice girls.

The victims come from some of the poorest parts of eastern Europe Eastern Europe. Moldova,Ukraine and rural Kosovo.

Some told Amnesty they were sold into the sex trade for 50 Euros pounds 34.

The slaves are tortured, beaten and raped by their masters.

One victim, a 21-year-old mother from Moldova, said of her pimp: 'We were his property.

'By buying us, he had the right to beat us, rape us, starve us and force us to have sex with clients.'

A 12-year-old Albanian girl added: 'Even in cold weather I had to wear thin dresses. I was forced by the boss to serve international soldiers and police officers.'
