Unfortunately, drugs have been the excuse to allow routine National Guard patrols in the region for some time. While we don't see them on every street corner, we do in fact see them in the air over the Hudson Valley, just about every single day. Most folks assume that the helicopters are on exercises from West Point or something, but the fact is that these helicopters are on routine patrols carrying sensitive surveillance equipment and searching for drugs. Each night they are looking into citizens homes and across their property with thermal imaging devices and other technology.

and this new? The National Guard has been flying drug detection flights for as long as I can remember. They are a state militia that reports to the Governor of the state they reside. He is the commander in chief.

Thanks OP I didn't know they did stuff like this in upstate ny and I'm in upstate ny lol. Moved here a few years back sad to hear this. 5 stars for knowledge which if nothing else is power.

Not really new, but a lot of people really don't know about it. I didn't realize how frequent these overflights were until I wound up with one of the pilots as a drinking buddy.

Okay, look, you don't need to be condescending when you deliver your message. You could have simply stated "Yes, this is true. The National Guard has been flying drug detections lights for as long as I can remember..."
