wall Natural smoking (cigarette) cessation & Detox?

I am trying to find a really good natural way to kick this addiction...

I began smoking cigarettes casually around the age of Eleven, and was a full-time smoker by the age of Fourteen. My Mom was a chain smoker (1-2 packs/day) during my entire childhood, so even before I put that first cigarette to my own lips, I was already in the haze of second hand smoke since birth.

When I was 19, my Mom had a heart attack and spent over two weeks in the hospital in a near-coma state and finally quit smoking. I also quit smoking and stayed that way for my first year in college. However, while in college I started going to the bars and clubs all the time, and at the time smoking was still allowed inside. Surrounded by regular smokers and weekend smokers, the temptation crept up and I smoked a few cigars at first, and before I knew it I ended my year of being smoke free when I began buying packs again.

Now, I'm Thirty and smoking around a pack a day. I have tried to quit multiple times either cold turkey or with one of the readily available quitting products out there. My latest attempt involved spending around $90 on gum and an inhaler. They worked so well, that I just lit another smoke...

The first day of quitting is usually very easy, but then that second day rolls around. By that second day, I start wandering around aimlessly, I cannot focus on my day job or on my career, and I feel absolutely lost in my own space. When I took a psychology course in college, they touched on this subject and showed us a study on brain activity when a person quits smoking. What they found was shocking really. Because Nicotine is used by the body to function when it is present, especially by the brain, and when it is removed it causes trauma to our emotional centres. In the brain scans from the study, they showed that the same areas of the brain light up when quitting as do when we lose someone we love, and that it is what it feels like; it feels like heartbreak.

I have many motivations for quitting. Health is a big one. Finance is another. Since the government applied the highest unrepresented taxation in history on cigarettes (over 50%), I find myself constantly broke. At a pack a day, I'm spending around $3,600 a year. This unfair taxation is a whole different subject worthy of it's own thread, because for the government to take advantage of addicted persons by financially wrecking them, without offering any real help is disgusting, regardless of how a person feels about smoking.

Anyways, with my long sob story laid out, the purpose of this thread is to reach out and try to find someone who knows of a good natural way to kick the addiction. I've been hearing more and more about painless natural ways to kick heroine, crack and other damaging drugs, so I figure there's gotta be something out there for this. I am finding that the gum and the inhaler only exacerbate the cravings, while burning the lining of my mouth and throat.

Stop buying cigarettes.
Wait 3-5 days.
Resist the urge to lick a hobo's fingers.
After seclusion for the week
Don't drink for six months.
Profit!

Don't drink more than two at a time for the first year or you'll be back into the pack again.

I was sitting here thinking real hard about quitting smoking and I looked down at the ashtray and my cigarette was laughing at me.

I have one of the e cigs (smoke NV), but you cannot get the ones with nicotine here in Canada (not sure about the US). Oddly enough though, even without nicotine, I find it much more satisfying compared to the inhaler and the gum.

Luckily I rarely drink. I had my time in college to drink my face off and easily got off of that. I've even kicked marijuana with ease (I will still toke every once and awhile). But smoking. fuuuuccckkkk!

I think a week of seclusion is right on par for quitting, but I have a full time job and my entire summer is booked for shooting a couple of short films, so I can't really get away, and I need to have my full focus for all of this. The flip side is that I could really use the money from quitting to buy more equipment...

With all the taxes we pay on cigs here, we should have the option to be put into an induced coma for a week... that'd do the trick. LOL

cig cessation is much like rocket science....joking, smoking cessation is pretty fycking simple...you either smoke the cig or you don't. It's 2 fycking choices, it's not that complicated. Either smoke your lungs black or don't smoke....Noone feels sorry for you, noone cares, because everyone has their own problems

Other than you'll lose your marbles for a couple of days. Do a long weekend.

I had a buddy that quit by drinking pickle juice. His girl friend at the time was an Naturalpathic Doctor and it seemed to work for him. in reality I'm pretty sure it's because she kept him busy for a weekend.

He quit the smokes for good doing that for a couple of weeks. The girlfriend I think lasted twice as long.

Obviously NOT a smoker.

I'm not looking for anyone to feel sorry for me, but I am looking for others with their own problems to discuss our similar situations and find solutions.

So how about you pull your head out of your ass. It's not rocket science, it's pretty simple. You either pull it out or you leave it up there!

Most natural way is to not pick up that first cigarette.

Find something else to do when you think about it and I promise the craving will pass. It's really all up to you. There is no magic cure. Its an addiction, pure and simple. Don't set yourself up and smoke again.
You know when you're about to...I know.

I wish I could go back and batch slap myself when I picked up that first cigarette. "What the f*#k you thinkin' boy! This is going to put you so far behind in life!" chuckle

When you're heathly in every way with exception to your lungs and the doctor tells you that you less than 25% lung capacity left ...you won't be chuckling. Do it now or cry later. The choice really is yours

Ummm yes you can. They sell them at a kiosk in the mall 10 minutes from my house. I have 4 friends/colleagues that use them regularly, I've seen the refill bottles with the nicotine content %.
