Netanyahu seeks unprecedented powers under gov't protocol

Ministers to vote on dramatic amendments to government protocol which would enable PM to root out opposition to fateful decisions, delay implementation of approved decisions

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to amend the government's protocol in such a way that would grant him unprecedented power. The amendments could have dramatic consequences in the backdrop of a possible strike on Iran seeing as most cabinet ministers currently oppose military action.

The prime minister's bureau explained that the move is meant to "improve governance." In effect, the amendments mean that Netanyahu would be able to easily secure a majority for fateful decisions.

The revised protocol stipulates that decisions can be reached through phone voting – 12 hours after the first call is made. The PM will also have the power to shorten or extend this timeframe.

The PM's aides explained this amendment is meant to prevent a situation where ministers change their positions days after a decision is made. Until now, ministers were given a week to respond to proposed resolutions not discussed at the meetings.

Israeli official: Iran has made progress toward developing nuclear warhead

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said new intelligence obtained by the United States, Israel and other Western countries shows that the Iranian activity around the "weapon group" - the final stage in the development of a nuclear weapon - is progressing far beyond the scope known to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The new intelligence was introduced as a last-minute update to the special National Intelligence Estimate on the Iranian nuclear program that was submitted to U.S. President Barack Obama a week ago.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak, in an interview with Israel Radio on Thursday, confirmed the report's existence and said its intelligence made taking action on Iran "more urgent."

This has been scripted long ago. I'm sure they're going to draw-out this brinksmanship towards WWIII until at least November. All eyes are on London. A major false flag/WMD mass casualty event (if one happens) will affect the groundwork being laid for an Iranian invasion and broader Middle Eastern war (and a war with Islam).

Eh, they're sloppy.

Remember, the patriot act was established before 9/11.

RE: Netanyahu seeks unprecedented powers under gov't protocol
Makes sense, Netanyahu and Barak want to strike Iran before the US election.

Israel's prime minister and defence minister would like to attack Iran's nuclear sites before the U.S. election in November but lack crucial support within their cabinet and military, an Israeli newspaper said on Friday.

"Were it up to Benjamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak, an Israeli military strike on the nuclear facilities in Iran would take place in the coming autumn months, before the November election in the United States," Yedioth said in the article by its two senior commentators, which appeared to draw on discussions with the defence minister but included no direct quotes.

Spokesmen for Prime Minister Netanyahu and Barak declined to comment.
