Cool to know. You're a lucky veteran. Thank you for serving our country.
I hear so many stories from someone who works in claims where he constantly turns people down because of "fine line" of pre-existing and directly related mental and stress issues.

That's a different world from the hospitals and clinics. They are
overwhelmed and I'm sure a lot of people get denied that should
qualify. The good news is that there are attorneys now who specialize
in those cases and must be paid by the VA. The bad news is that no
one is telling the vets this, other than ads from people like Rep4Vets.

LoP Guest Wrote:ButtonsArentToys Wrote:LoP Guest Wrote:well, for that matter one out of three women are raped at least once in their life, 75% of that before the age of twelve. this is estimated to be less than half of the rapes that actually happen, so you can figure 2 out of 3 are raped. half of all women are battered at least once in their life by a man. so . . . do you think any women have PTSD?
you bet! are you going to make women go through psychological evaluations every year? how about kids? psych-eval them, too?
now, how many men have been raped or battered? let's just psy-eval them, also.
frankly, i think most of humanity has PTSD because of all the violent abuse and war that is perpetrated. let's just psych-eval everybody in Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan while we are at it.
Most of humanity is damaged, not just vets. This whole world is a war zone.
As a woman, I have always been aware of the fact that I live in a war zone.
this isn't about women getting raped so I'll thank you to keep on topic instead of using stupid tactics that some of us are unfortunately way used to, to try to segue into a different conversation. This is about the HUGE amounts of soldiers WITH problems that don't have a venue for treatment because the system is broken. If you want to appeal to someone for rape assistance, I encourage you to do so.
ETA: I know I'm coming across harshly. I apologize for that, to the sensitive. This is a really serious problem for the soldiers. I know more than 20 families I can think of without even really thinking, that are in huge distress. Words and acronyms are thrown around all too frequently and without consideration. PTSD has become one of these kinds of thoughts. Hell I remember when the first trials for PTSD happened. Yes some people abuse the idea of it. TBI/PTSD is a particularly troublesome duo that is the signature injury of this insanity. While the disconnected part of me can look rather globally at the sense of generational education that must be happening, I'm also quite connected to specific cases and families who simply can't cope. Do these people really have to be completely leveled for the American public to realize there really are serious issues here? Does everything have to be a freeking nut case conspiracy theory? Is there no such thing as compassion anymore? These soldiers, male and female, are real people - many with real families and real issues and they need real help. Reducing it to a collective and equating it with any other reason for there to be PTSD symptoms is just desperation speaking.
70% of women soldiers are raped in the service, 30% of male soldiers are raped in the service, and rape can and usually does cause crippling PTSD. The abuse these soldiers have suffered is not just battle scars or shell shock. They have been abused and harmed in many ways by their service.
Sending young men and women to a country that never attacked us and ordering them to participate in genocide is NOT a kind of rape? What is it? Isn't it a kind of rape of the mind, the soul, or innate morality?
I wasn't changing the subject. Yes, these soldiers have real problems from their war service, but I just wanted you to see that institutionalizing, requiring, or mandating mental health treatment across the board is just another false flag because most of the human race has PTSD or damage to their psyche. The war was a sham. Why wouldn't some of us think that "helping the vets" by mandating they have mental health evaluations might also be a sham?
Do you really after all of this still trust the leaders of this government?
Trust the leaders?
that's a loaded question to which there is no simple answer. So I'm going to ignore it as it only seems a ploy to once again, get things off track.
I don't know where you got your statistics but I'd be very interested in seeing more information. I am well aware of the high number that is even probably misrepresented, as many don't report. Yes I'm also aware of PTSD due to these horrible incidents. I lost a daughter-in-law to such a scenario so the need to lecture me about this is sort of lost. So don't!
The point I was trying to make and will attempt one more time is the combination of TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) in what is still considered a pediatric brain until an individual is 25 years old, combined with PTSD is as individualized as each soldier. While it can be called a general "signature" issue with this particular war, it shouldn't be marginalized when it comes to the trauma and potential destruction that each soldier is capable of experiencing. I for one, am thrilled that the President is taking some action to implement appropriate care. That does not necessarily mean that psychotropic drugs will always be used. But that also means that PDF's and GPS systems won't be the only treatment in conjunction with "anti-depressants" or anti-psychotic drugs. HURRAY!

A fairly succinct and accurate combat deployment scenario experience:

Hagmann radio show, tomorrow starting at 6pm PST.

Are you prepared for what’s coming? The Hagmann & Hagmann Report: Special Broadcast!
5 September 2012: There is much talk about coming events. The coming economic collapse, the coming war in the Middle East, the coming events on the horizon that will challenge all of us. To those paying attention, we’ve been advised to prepare for the events that loom large, especially material preparation. But there is more to preparation than “guns, gold and grub.” Are you mentally and emotionally prepared?
Join Steve Quayle and Dr. Paul Hegstrom as our special guests on The Hagmann & Hagmann Report this Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 9:00 p.m. to midnight ET. Dr. Paul Hegstrom is the world renowned author of two books, Broken Children, Grown-up Pain and Angry Men and the Women Who Love Them. But beyond the dust jackets of his books, Dr. Hegstrom is something more – much more.
He is a genuine exhibit of real-life PTSD. In fact, his life story, and the experiences of his wife dealing with him, was the subject of a CBS movie starring the late John Ritter as Paul Hegstrom and Harley Jane Kozak as Judy Hegstrom. It is the story of Paul and Judy’s life experience with domestic violence and Paul’s recovery. A short but compelling clip from that movie can be seen on Dr. Hegstrom’s website, Life Skills International.
Facing a multitude of criminal charges that included attempted murder, Dr. Hegstrom not only turned his life around and escaped the PTSD mental roller coaster, he has found a way to help others escape the mental imprisonment. The chances are good that if you are reading this, you will gain from the experiences of Dr. Hegstrom and learn how to regain control over your mental health, even if your problems are far less than those that gripped him. Additionally, he will guide us on how to deal with what’s coming.
Battles in the desert, battles at home
The proverbial writing is on the wall – and in government terrorist warnings. Returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are labeled as being afflicted with PTSD. They not only face a life of mental and emotional upheaval, but the branding as potential terrorists, according to our own Department of Homeland Security and compliments of the Department of Defense that created the demons within. But you now have a choice. You can avoid that derogatory designation and take control of your life – Dr. Hegstrom will tell you how. Your freedoms, your liberties, and even your life and those of others might depend on it.

Did you know that if there are records of that you could apply for
disability compensation if what you went through still affects you
at all?
yes, I know. been there, done that.

Yes, it's a great video but it's disturbing - VERY disturbing - as well. There is so much emphasis on
*sigh
it won't matter what I say
I find it horribly ironic that the very posters here at LOP who slam dunk soldiers and a war across the pond, are the very same posters who get a hard on for anarchy and bullshit power struggles with real people and real bullets here in the US.

Some of my most intelligent friends do the same thing. They have knee-jerk reactions to people wanting handouts who aren't really in need of such. When I step back and observe the current crises in humanity the one thing that really stands out is that people are confusing technological advancement with love and civilization is getting more lonely as they also struggle with the media-based concept of perfection.
There is a lot going on with humanity.
