That's simply not right! The Government needs to control all the roads. With tolls, the only people who would pay for them would be the people who actually use them. How is that fair?

Not that I am supporting this toll road shyte, but how would that be any different than those of us who are child free (by choice) and still pay for the education of everyone elses children?

I don't see it as any difference at all! I don't see why you should be forced to pay for my two kids' education especially since you don't have any say in it.

Even worse, since the government forces everyone to pay, it makes it almost impossible for anybody except the well-off to be able to choose their children's education, since they're forced to subsidize the government-monopoly schools whether they use them or not.

This is especially tough on places like the inner city where the people there (disproportionately people of color) are forced to use the really bad government schools, since they can't afford the freedom of choice.

Indeed! I think that the disproportionate level of funding these inner-city schools is a crime. I really have no issue paying for the education of the children of America, as the idea is to educate everyone (well it *was* anyway) equally and to bring about a more intelligent society. If we spent the money from our wars (albeit illegal wars) on education and poverty, the USA would be the most educated and poverty free nation on earth. Call me a hippie (that's really true), but I still believe that the best road into the future is one that is paved by humanity and the eradication of the enslavement of the masses of this planet. I firmly believe that in every human beings heart there lies compassion and goodness. Those are traits that are easily forfeit for money and a false sense of well being however.

What can we expect? The inner city population, for a lot of reasons, just doesn't have any political clout. These people tend to vote less, and Ghod knows they don't have the money to spend (waste?) on donations to candidates.

But I think there's more to it than that; there's no incentive for the schools to get any better. It's almost impossible to fire an incompetent teacher, and where else can the inner-city folks send their kids? Not an insurmountable if you're a rich White surburbanite; I could afford to send my kids to private schools had I chosen to do so. But what options do the people of the poorer areas (the ones who actually need to have half-way decent schols instead of the edu-dumpsters they have now) have?

If taxpayers got a tax credit to send their kids to a freedom-of-choice school and people below the tax line got a tax grant to do the same, the parents would be able to make a choice on what they -- not some government bureaucrat -- thought was best for their kids. You'd see a whole bunch of freedom-of-choice schools spring up (some good, some bad), and the government-monopoly schools would have to improve or they'd lose all their students to the new guys who would try harder and do better.

But don't hold your breath: the monopoly-schools' unions and administrators have a vested interest in the status quo; they're simply too powerful and able to influence politicians for that the happen.

Well put! Bravo sir!

- I will be using your term "Edu-dumpsters" from now on. Credit to you of course. I'll pass that on to my wife who works with underprivileged youths, and after school tutelage programs and such.

Will we see this symbol at the new tolls?
Maybe some automated speeding tickets?
It will be "new and improved" - I am betting.

This is one ugly logo.
It looks like the CEO of the TSA slapped it together.

tip of the iceberg,

they want to charge people per mile,

now matter where they drive,

the elites hate that people can travel at all.
they also hate those too poor to travel.
