IMHO, the people that have 100s and 100s and 100s of friends (some over 1000+) are the ones to watch out for. When someone has that much time on their hands to troll for friends, that should be a flag. The average person does not have 500 best friends.

I'd be more worried about WHO people were friends with and that is why I keep my list to only people I know and people I have actually interacted with in the last decade (with a very few exceptions of old friends that I know well now also). Its nice to catch up with old friends, but unless you really know them, you have no idea what their
history or record might be (DUI, arrest, trouble -makers, etc).. Just because you knew someone for one year in the 8th grade doesn't mean they are a upstanding person in society. Depending on your line of work, its probably not wise to have people who've had a history of run-ins with the law.

You have to do your own due diligence in this age of technology. Its not being judgmental, but rather selective. Your facebook page of friends reflects who you are by their association(s) and character as well. I've declined friend requests from people I once knew who are friends with sketchy people. Its just not that important to me to have 100s and 100s of fake fb friends.

Guilt by association? Kinda f*cked up.

Every job I've ever had ran a credit check. I worked for some top companies in my working years. I totally understand how a company would not want to hire someone with extensive amounts of debt.


There is good debt and bad debt in the credit check industry, if you have student debt or a mortgage that is the norm. if you've filed bankcrupcy many times you may be considered a risky employee.

This is why it is so important to make the right decisions and choices when you are young and starting out... all those partying days come back to haunt you when you can't pay your bills.

Its just commons sense on a company's part to select the most responsible, hard working people for the jobs. That is not discrimination, that is common sense. No one is entitled to a job. you have to earn your place in the hiring pecking order.

While I understand why certain jobs run the credit check, I think it's pure and utter BS to do it for job in which your credit has nothing to do with the job. In security and clearance jobs I get it. For working as a secretary or flipping burgers, I don't. To me, it's yet another excuse for Big Brother to put his nose where it doesn't belong.

This is just school yard bullying taken into the corporate world. The purpose bullies fill in society is to enforce conformity by punishing nonconformists. This is just the corporate world doing the same thing. Have a Facebook account and be one of us or you can starve.

This is just capitalism.. in action. Ignore it. Who gives a shit. A real employer will be ecstatic that his employees aren't wasting time on FB.
