Very nice link, I live in Salem OR. Always figured we would lose some bridges when the Cascadia Subduction Fault gives way in an 8 or 9 magnitude quake. We are +/- 50 years overdue or due for one.
Good (or bad) to know we will lose most bridges.
Suppose I should plan my evacuation route with the knowledge that few if any bridges will be left in original condition.

I like your AV btw, very cool.

In the event of a 8 or 9 magnitude quake better figure on all the bridges being out if they are damaged or not, because ODOT will close all bridges until they have been inspected and are deemed structurally sound and safe to use.

Wow, I had never thought of that. Good to know!

This is why you need to make sure you have enough provisions for several days providing your house hasn't been leveled.

I have food preps, but thankfully I'm on the east coast in an area with very few bridges.

The info on all this looks like the whole area is a case of a "perfect storm" if a big one hits because of the infrastructure of the towns/cities there.

Mt. Fuji is melting its snow

Though it was the season when Mt. Fuji has the most snow, snow is already disappearing.

Think there's a doom prophecy about that.

Actually, after a quake of that magnitude it would probably take a week, more or less, for ODOT to really do anything, amidst all the chaos.

This isn't too uncommon for this area, although this is larger than usual. About every 2 years there is a 6 range quake, while 5 range occurs about once a season.

There has been speculation about an undersea volcano here, but I have never heard any confirmation of this.

That said...gonna be in Seaside, OR this weekend!!doomed

I would NOT want to be in Seaside when a tsunami hits the Oregon coast! Very flat area ... No where to run!

Think there's a doom prophecy about that.

In 1990 Japanese directer Akira Kurosawa released his thought provoking film "Dreams." Kurosawa claimed that the eight short skits in the film were based on actual dreams of his. One skit is called "Mount Fuji in Red." This dream depicts Japan having a nuclear meltdown from a nuclear power plant. The prophetic relevance is painfully chilling. A woman, seeing the end of life coming, says, "They told us the nuclear power plants were safe...no accidents, no danger. That's what they told us. What liars!"

Here's a short read about some of the concerns (bridges, liquefaction, etc.) for a large earthquake in this area.

There are still some ferries in use on several of the Oregon rivers. It would be prudent to get familiar with escape routes that make use of the ferry crossings.
