(OPNote:)I think this article works in conjunction with the power grid tests coming up in November... who or what kind of group would possibly want to disable power to so many Americans is above and beyond me, suggesting something just a little bit more nefarious, insinuating a problem-reaction-solution scenario.

Weekend Attacks on Arkansas' Electric Grid Leave 10,000 Without Power; 'YOU SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED U.S.'

More than 10,000 people in Arkansas were dumped into a blackout Sunday following an attack on that state’s electric grid, the FBI said today, the third such attack in recent weeks. In August, a major transmission line in the region, around Cabot, Ark., was deliberately cut.

The FBI said that two power poles had been intentionally cut in Lonoke County on Sunday, resulting in the outage.

“Though we remain confident that we will identify the person or persons responsible for these incidents,” the FBI said in a press release, “we are enlisting the public’s help to be our eyes and ears. We take threats to our power grid very seriously.”

The FBI said it would pay a $25,000 reward for information about the attacks.

And for good reason. The FBI suspects these attacks are linked with a third incident in September.

According to the FBI:

In the early morning hours of September 29, 2013, officials with Entergy ETR +0.35% Arkansas reported a fire at its Keo substation located on Arkansas Highway 165 between Scott and England in Lonoke County. Fortunately, there were no injuries and no reported power outages. Investigation has determined that the fire, which consumed the control house at the substation, was intentionally set. The person or persons responsible for this incident inscribed a message on a metal control panel outside the substation which reads, ‘YOU SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED U.S.’

In August, a person or group of people attached a cable to the framework of a 100-foot electric transmission tower and placed the cable across the railroad track in an apparent attempt to use a moving train to pull down the tower.

While the electric power industry has expressed concerns about cybersecurity, the recent spate of attacks in Arkansas suggests that the electric power grid is equally if not more vulnerable to physical acts of sabotage.

Europe has more experience with physical attacks on the electric grid than the United States, according to the Terrorism Research & Analysis Consortium.

During the 1980s, anti-nuclear political groups in Germany were believed to be responsible for acts of sabotage on transmission lines from nuclear reactors.

doomed

I almost hate it when articles like this are published.

It will generate copycat acts from other nutbags. In other words, don't give people ideas.......

Well I guess people like you don't GET these kind of articles. MOST people I know are good caring Americans, who would NEVER dream of doing such a thing to so many... this is not the work of an American, could be the work of a terrorist cell, that would probably end up working for U.S. interests, again, NOT Americans lol... get with the script troll.

WHAT I am suggesting.... troll, is that this is a Hegelian dialectic, some f*cking 'anti-nuclear political groups' as they like to blame 'environmentalists' who are often infiltrated by govt spooks, may be responsible for this. The end result? Making it look like it was govt protesters when it was the government itself.

I believe this may be a precursor to this FemaRegion III debacle.

Wow for someone on a conspiracy forum your a bit slow on the draw.

Gee, I'm sorry you think I'm a troll because that is my honest opinion. I have seen such scenarios when my parents lived in California.

A fire would start by lightening and then pyro's would start some more. Things like this bring nuts out of the woodwork.

While I would love to believe that no American would ever do such a thing, you don't know that for sure.

Maybe it's a disgruntled ex- employee. Teenagers pulling pranks, somebody who couldn't afford their bill??

Too many different things that could be possibilities here.

Ya know, I feel bad with my flippant remarks about your being a troll, but who would make such a comment on a conspiracy forum about 'copycats', when most of us here understand that there really are no 'copycats' out there that would commit such heinous acts against their own people, time and time again we find out that most major acts of violence have some kind of underlying connection, meaning these people were trained to by-pass their conscience in order to do the things they do to other people, RARELY seen in American blood (to such a horrible extent).

Just kind of odd that that would be your first statement about this article.

Quite honestly, I would suspect large finanical conglomerates of the "attacks".

The whole rationale behind their "smart grid" plan is so that they can instigate rolling brown outs to use as a technique for trading leverage. When they fail to price in the right number for electrical power on commodities exchanges, instead of taking the "loss", they will just throttle power outages like this. That's their plan.

To NSA agencies listening to this: these firms and their plans are obviously threats to national security. They should not be allowed to have such a stranglehold on STRATEGIC NATIONAL RESOURCES like this with their "smart grid".

The disaster drill is being described as a crisis practice unlike anything the real power grid has ever experienced. The GridEX II drill Nov. 13-14 will focus primarily on how governments will react if the electrical grid fails and, for instance, the food supply chain collapses.

Like you, I wouldn't want to believe that people could be capable of such a thing either. Some people are just mentally ill.

Hopefully the find out who did this in a hurry so that nothing else happens, and no insane person get's any bright ideas.

Thinking about American's and things they do, there is a reason why the term, "Going Postal," exists.

While I tend to agree with you that there are conditioned people out there, some are just plain nuts.

Here is an article from Forbes where these acts are referred to as vandalism:

Quote:In the early morning hours of August 21st, the electric power grid was targeted in what appears to have been a deliberate, decidedly low-tech act of vandalism–with more dangerous implications for grid safety.

They go on to describe this:

Quote:The FBI goes on to describe the likely culprit as “familiar with the Holland Bottoms area” and possessing “above-average knowledge or skill in electrical matters.”

The attack was almost certainly calculated to cause power outages in the surrounding area.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/williampentl...-arkansas/

Oh, also because of this vandalism:

Quote:In 2010, Entergy ETR +0.33% explained why the attack – had it been successful – would likely have resulted in power outages in testimony before the Arkansas Public Service Commission, stating:

The central region north of Little Rock is served from the Morrilton and Conway areas through two 500 kV lines. A single contingency loss of a transmission line in this region could cause overloading on the other lines serving the area and jeopardizing the reliability of service and potentially causing power outages in the area.

I do find this whole shebang to be convenient considering the drills that are coming up.

I am wondering why this is being release now after reading this:

Quote:Despite the growing anxiety, the government and the private sector have had trouble coordinating their grid protection efforts. The utility industry argues that the government has extensive information on threats but keeps it classified. Government officials concede the problem, and they have suggested that some utility executives get security clearances. But with hundreds of utilities and thousands of executives, it cannot issue such clearances fast enough. And the industry would like to be instantly warned when the government identifies Internet servers that are known to be sources of malware.

Nuts seem more prone to spontaneous non-nonsensical acts of aggression like looting and random shooting, breaking things that can be readily broke, not necessarily something that takes a bit of thought and a sober mind to complete.
