Reloading everything, works okay for a while then, bam.
Off/On, reloads works fine. . .etc. Acts like nothing has happened.
No error messages.

This has been going on for about a week.

It's not infected with the virus set to take computers offline tomorrow. Scanned for that.
I've checked for everything, firewalls, conflicts, cords intact, and the only thing I've noticed is CPU is running higher than normal, but that is random also.

Could this be caused by an overload from a piggyback source?
Is there a way to check for piggybacking from a source I can't see?
I'm using Clear. Still clinging to XP as the love of my life.
No gaming use at all. System is an HP, somewhat cannibalized.
CPU is nearly new. CD/DVD writer is out.

Does anyone care to diagnose?

check your power supply, plugs and all that jazz

Take the cover off the case and blow the dust off the cpu fan,and the case fan,if you have one.
also,try cleaning the gold fingers on ram with a pencil eraser

Clean out the dust bunnies from your cpu fan maybe...

Yup it sounds like your PSU. In summertime they are more prone to malfunctions cause of the heat.

You have a huge trojan, or other malware.

If you know how, re-install your entire system. If not get help.

If you bank or purchase online, keep a very close look, like every few hours of those accounts.

I was hacked like this five years ago. It is devastating.

You COULD be overheating but it really sounds like the PSU is going out Scream1

self re-bootimg is usually caused by a bad motherboard.

The unit is overheating. Open up the case/or remove the case and see if that cures the problem.

If so get a BIGGER case with a bigger power supply and MANY fans.

The other thing is you may be running out of memory, or "swap memory".

Remember Heat causes disk errors. So maybe trun Scandisk (or whatever it's called on your verions) overnight, and then defragment.

If you think it's a mmory issue, buy more, or allocate more "swap memory" on the disk, and don't lex XP dynamicly assign the amount of swap memory. Hard code assign it to 1.5 to 2.5 times the amount of memory stick capacity that you have.

Star/richt clik my computer/ properties/ advanced/ performance settings/advanced/virtual memory/change/custom sized/(put in the amount in MB of the swap memory you want). (do not check "system manage size").

If this seems scary, look it up on the net, it's easy. Its called virtual memory or swap memory.

Thanks to all, have already done the cleaning dust out, and have
AC on it. Have checked the wires.

Rick can you remember what the trojan was called?
I have a computer guy who handles the really bad stuff
but he always wipes and reinstalls, which invariably
loses important read only files and takes out all bookmarks.

Could this be a printer malfunction backfeeding?
