I was having a lot of problems like that and re-formats and re-installs would help only temporarily, then the problem would come back.

decided it was remnants of a virus, malware, or something.

used this/it's free
made a bootable disk of it
an iso.

then reformat and reinstall

works fine now
better than ever

also using something like a private tunnel solution to get on
that seems to be helping, also.

computer speedy now

Download or borrow a Linux live cd/dvd such as Ubuntu and if that runs without the problems you were experiencing you will know, 99.9% it's a hardware problem.

a reset of a hardware driver could cause a reboot- or one not loading completely -suspect video,sound,com,-fishy oem type system drivers also can be an ass pain as much of their functions interfere with memory.consider systeminternals Autorun program and also procesexp.tcpview is an easy frontend for seeing your open ports.
hijackthis on sourceforge also gets an honorable mention for trouble shooting.
if your advanced bootvis is a nice see whats loading at boot time type thing.
good luck
ps these are all programs i use on all my many machines.

RE: PC is shutting off, then back on instantly.
Here´s what you do, make sure the fan at the back of the power supply is working by putting your hand over it. This is the main thing that could be causing it.

When it restarts does it let some beep codes go, beep codes is the bios telling you what is wrong with some hardware, RAM, Video card etc. Look up the beep codes for your bios make.

Also as someone already mentioned clean the inside especially the fans. Unplug it, open the case and get a vacuum cleaner and suck all the dust out, especially the fans and power supply fan.

If this doesn´t work, recover windows to a different restore point.

To count out any hardware issues, you could get a Linux bootable CD, and run Linux from the CD/DVD, like ubuntu. If that runs without crashing it´s a windows problem.
