Pensacola is up to 10.90 inches so far today; now 4th-wettest on record, wettest day since 1979. Flash flood EMERGENCY in effect.


Myrtle Grove Elem WeatherNet station registers nearly 12" of rain today. Brentwood Elem nearly 11.

Extreme Flood In Pensacola Area; Shelter Opened, Emergency Operations Center Activated

Extreme flooding is being reported in portions of Escambia County. In some areas of southwestern Escambia County, 10-15 inches of rain have fallen.

Multiple people have been trapped in houses and vehicles under several feet of water; multiple water rescues were underway just before noon. Some flooded roads and intersections have been reported as far north Davis Highway.

Breaking: Flash Flooding in Mobile, Pensacola

A relentless stream of tropical moisture has brought significant flash flooding to Pensacola, Florida this morning and afternoon.

Since midnight, Pensacola Regional Airport has picked up 11.12 inches of rainfall through 3:30 P.M. EST. This number will continue to increase the remainder of the day as heavy rain continues to track onshore from the Gulf of Mexico.

The daily maximum amount of rainfall at the Pensacola Regional Airport is 11.68 inches, which could be surpassed in the next hour.

Meanwhile, the Pensacola Naval Air Station has picked up nearly 12 inches of rain just since midnight.

Flooding has been reported across Pensacola with numerous roads flooded and impassable.

Homes and businesses throughout downtown Pensacola are flooded, especially in the Palafox area of the city.

Reports are coming out that water has entered the first floor of a Baptist Hospital.

Rainfall rates of greater than 2 inches per hour continue to fall throughout the Gulf Coast region and there have been reports of greater than 18 inches of rain so far today in an area just north of Interstate 10 between Dawes and St. Elmo, Alabama in Mobile County.

A failed dam on a 14-acre private lake near Dawes, Ala. has displaced many people from their homes.

State of emergency in Escambia

Several areas of Escambia County are being flooded this afternoon, prompting Escambia County officials to declare a state of emerency as of 3 p.m. today.

Here is the latest news from the county:

• The National Weather Service is forecasting and additional 12 to 15 inches of rainfall between now and midnight Sunday night. This makes the total projected rain fall for this event between 20 and 30 inches.
