A lady came in to where i work last night asking for Money saying she was homeless.. A very kind soul (Who did not have a lot of extra money herself gave the lady $5).. She then tried several phone calls to get the lady into a shelter.. But to no avail..I got a call about 15 min later saying a woman had walked into two separate classrooms on campus (different buildings) asking the class for money.. In one case she was escorted out of the building and was seen opening up a cell phone as she got outside..So what do you think.. People asking for money how many are running a game vs how many really need it ??

The ones that ask me for money actually need the money at the time--would they have needed it if they managed their money more properly is another story.

my father in law is the head of HR at a local company and hands his business card to people pan handling and tells them to give him a call, he can get them a job. He has NEVER had any of them call him.

I'm sure there are some people that really need it but its too hard to tell these days who is sincere and who is not.

It's a Hustle.Just like the guys at the gas station saleing gold chains or the one that park there car near an intersection and hold sings begging for money.

I don't give cash but,ill buy some one dinner if there hungry or gas if there stranded but not cash EVER.

I put over 50%. Grew up in New Orleans, so yeah, I've seen my share of shysters. But, there are a lot of crazy homeless out there. Usually, you can tell by their general demeanor if they are really in need.

Or, I'm just a sucker sometimes.

There was a guy in Knoxville TN at an exit with a stop light that was out in a wheel chair with a sign saying he was a crippled vet and was homeless and hungry...the guy was there most of the day and people were giving him money. Then around 6pm, the f*cker wheeled himself to a f*cking BMW in the Shell gas station parking lot and got up and put the chair in the trunk with no problem and drove off.

These fuckers are everywhere! Look at their hands and finger nails. Clean? clipped or gnawed off? see if they are shaven or stubbly. I dont give them money unless they are entertaining me with a song or dance.

The way I see it, if they someone is begging for money then they need it, even if they have a fortune in the bank, they truly have nothing else that matters.

So, either way, I don't judge. I just give if I can.

Yup.

I personally knew of a group who traveled all over the US and regularly took in 200K+/ year. They used props of course but the real rat bastard swindlers use their own children as props and can earn even more.

Think those kids at the Tijuana border are poor?

I'm pretty much done giving money to anybody. I have been ripped off five times in the last year, people who don't pay me back, etc. It is sad, because I don't trust a lot of charities and when you have so-called "friends" who can't bother to pay you back why bother? The ironic thing is that if these individuals had said that they needed money and they couldn't pay me back, I would have simply given it to them!! No strings attached!! They insisted on loans, paying me back.

As for homeless people, been ripped off there, also. Guy in Chicago asks for a couple bucks, I get out my wallet guy steals wallet. Sooo what I do is give them cigarettes or food. I keep 5 dollar McDonald's gift cards around and extra packs. I usually know which ones are truly homeless, and they do react kindly when given the gift cards/cigs. One guy almost cried, so gave him extra gift cards. He wasn't panhandling, though...but you just knew he was homeless.

noone should have to ask for money, real friends know when someone they know is in need and give before any awkward request like asking for money happens... this thread is really stupid and people need to be more sharing in these times shows more character and who's in touch with reality and the rewards are farther than better to those that see this.
