The CTIA Wireless 2012 show early next month just got a whole lot bigger for PositiveID Corporation (OTC:PSID). The event - a trade show for the latest innovations and inventions from and for the wireless telco industry - was going to be something of a public debut for PositiveID's iglucose technology. The company was to be one of the tech companies showcasing its invention for the thousands of folks looking for the latest and greatest in the world of mobile technologies. That alone would have put PSID on the proverbial map. As it turns out though, the company's going to get a whole lot more attention that that of a regular exhibitor.

How so? As it turns out, the iglucose device is one of the finalists for the prestigious CTIA Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Award.

It's a big deal too. The award is given based on innovation, functionality, technological importance, implementation, and the overall "wow" factor... all criteria where the iglucose device does well.

Iglucose is the device that PositiveID Corporation has been working on for a while, unveiled a few months ago, and began pre-selling just a few days ago. It should start shipping before the end of the second quarter of this year. It's not only a contender for the CTIA award, but it also - and this is far more important - solves a key problem for diabetics. It records and stores glucose levels taken from daily readings. Rather than the diabetes patient stopping to log each and every level (or worse, not stopping to do so), the device logs the data automatically using one of several compatible glucose meters, and aggregates that information remotely so the patient or other healthcare professional can make sound critical decision later.
