I'm not a huge Rush fan, but they've got a few hits I dig and they're obviously great musicians (Neil Pert's considered to be one of the best drummers ever, isn't he?). They are a shoe-in if they got nominated this year. Good for them, and good for LoP user Rush

This year's hopefuls are Albert King, Chic, Deep Purple, Donna Summer, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Kraftwerk, the Marvelettes, the Meters, N.W.A., Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Procul Harum, Public Enemy, Randy Newman and Rush.

Most of their good stuff was in the 70's and early 80's. Not only is Neil considered one of the best drummers in the world, Geddy Lee is also considered one of the best bass players in the world.

Yeah, I've heard that. I think he's had his detractors with his voice, but they write decent songs (I assume he's the primary songwriter). I don't know what the guitarist's name is, but he's pretty bad-ass too, imo (and I play/have played guitar, so I have some credibility there, I think). There's so many goddamned guitar players, though (and great guitarists), that he probably wouldn't rank on very many top lists in that instrument.

How many nominees get selected? Like any Rolling Stones magazine list of greatest anythings, the best artists, songs or albums aren't accurately reflected in their results, imo. Just like the Illuminati Grammys. Sure, I'm not a fan of some genres of music like I am of others, but it's an inaccurate and inappropriate reflection and recognition of greatness when these supposed 'authorities' choose the musicians or the music they choose to represent 'the best'.

From what I heard... Neil Peart writes all the lyrics and the other two write the music. Alex Lifeson is the guitarist and has always been one of my favorites. I wouldn't rank him with the best on technical ability, but I would rank with the best on creativity.

I think there are 600 votes and the top vote getters are inducted. This year will be the first time that fans have a vote. But it only counts as one out of the 600.
From the list above... I am surprised that Deep Purple isn't already in, along with Heart and Donna Summer. I am not sure what's up with NWA and Public Enemy.

Maybe your parade is unsatisfactory, in this music aficionado's opinion. My Lop username namesake, obviously, is after Neil Young (another f*cking Canadian, for Christs-sake!), and I think he deserves top recognition. I'm not so sure Rush deserves the same kudos. Sure, personal preference weighs in, but from a critical stand-point, I'm not sure they measure up the to the cream of the shiznit, baby. I think if you look deep in your heart, you'll know I'm right...

RE: RUSH finally on Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame Ballot
I think they are going to snub the hall if they ever are voted in. It's a well known fact that one person sitting on the board has said that they will never get in as long as he's alive.
I'm happy that Robin Trower will probably get in.
